LOCATION: Department of the Air Force 66 Mission Support Group 66 MSS/CEF Hanscom Air Force Base Bedford, MA 01731 MAJOR DUTIES: - Dispatches emergency response forces in accordance with the department's response procedure and the Base's Disaster Preparedness Plan. Dispatches fire, ambulance, or police when needed. Dispatches personnel/equipment to those emergencies and relays vital information gained via 911 telephone systems, automatic alarm systems, administrative phones, radios, etc. Dispatches personnel and equipment to assist nearby communities during a disaster, fires, hazardous materials incidents, etc. Researches and retrieves information quickly and efficiently from various hazardous materials guidebooks using chemical name or department of transportation (DOT) identification number. - Maintains and operates equipment in the fire alarm 911 dispatch center. Uses a computer aided dispatch system that includes radio frequency management, emergency phone lines, fire alarm control panels, radio controls for frequency modulated (FM) equipment, and administrative phone lines. Proficient on use and management of the automated civil engineering squadron fire department (ACESFD) computed program. Operates computed inquiry terminals. Types information on a computer keyboard to process or update information accurately. Inputs data, maintains and updates the fire department response database concerning emergency response and standbys. Maintains a complex system of telephones, two-way radios, and alarm equipment, including phone lines, public address systems and a voice recorder. Required select channels, recording levels, set unit clocks, operate retrieval playback, and perform maintenance. Inputs and extracts information from personnel call directories , apparatus status (location history), prefire plan to include (location response apparatus) water supply, hazard and alarm equipment), and from one year history of all fire and trouble alarm responses. Initiates recall of firefighters when directed by higher authority. Responsible to contact appropriate contract repair technician when any equipment item in the FACC goes down. Maintains records and sends DODFERS to HQ AFMC. Maintains service call after regular duty hours, holidays and weekends. - Maintains appropriate and relative documents, regulations, operational instructions, technical orders, maps, charts and checklist. Prepares necessary reports for input into the computer system. Maintains an official ledger of all fire protection activities such as vehicle and personnel movements, emergencies, standbys, daily test, weather warnings/advisories, distinguished visitors list, duty rosters, vehicle status, vehicle down time and mileage, fire alarm systems, and hydrants out of service. This information is utilized for periodic activity and historical reports. Maintains current information on various rosters such as emergency recall, and department personnel roster. Maintains and utilizes current on and off base grid maps which reflect systems such as electrical, water, gas, central heating distribution, sanitary sewage, storm drainage, and pollution control. - Obtains and relays vital information relative to management of emergency incidents/accidents. Retrieves data from prefire plans on specific buildings to include floor plan information, utilities within the structure, hazards associated with the facility, type of fire suppression systems, the locations of fire alarm panels, etc. Researches and retrieves information quickly and efficiently from various hazardous material guidebooks using chemical name or department of transportation (DOT) identification number. During emergency response provides concise information to the senior officer. Plots incidents, cordon, wind direction, and entry control point for evaluation if necessary. References information such as hydrant locations, utility shutoff location, hazardous material; stored, and special consideration for the facility. Relays information gained from classified publications concerning the weapon characteristics, withdrawal times and distances for munitions involved in fire. Obtains current weather information such as temperature, wind direction and velocity. Collects status of support agencies and follow-on emergency response forces required at the scene and forwards to the senior fire officer. Keeps mobile fire units informed of relevant information from other agencies. - Operates the civil Engineer group service call function after administrative duty hours, on weekends and holidays. Maintains knowledge of service call procedures: i.e., receiving emergency calls, initiating job order forms, dispatching standby craftsman/personnel on emergency service calls, and coordinating problem solutions with senior fire officer. Insures all service call transactions are logged in automated system. ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: You must submit proof that you have completed HAZMAT Awareness Certification.
