Description:
DUTIES:The employee serves as an Electrician and performs electrician duties in one of the Electrical Sections (day, evening, or night) in support of equipment and electrical systems in the House Office Buildings. Performs repair and maintenance work on the electrical and electronic components of circuits and systems and controls, such as air conditioning units, power distribution lighting systems, intrusion detection systems, electronic entry control systems, fire detection and alarm systems, station batteries, uninterruptible power supplies (UPS), and kitchen appliances in the House cafeterias. Installs, assembles, troubleshoots, modifies, repairs, and maintains routine and standard electrical lines, circuits, systems, and associated fixtures, controls, and equipment. Examples of equipment that contain the circuit-based components are: fire alarm systems, variable speed drives and electric motor starters for the air conditioning systems, cafeteria and kitchen equipment (steam wells, Vulcan ovens, deep fryers, Bain Marie soup well, etc), light dimming systems in the committee rooms, and automatic door opening systems. Troubleshoots, tests, and loads new and existing electrical lines, circuits, systems, and associated fixtures, controls, and equipment. Determines locations of existing electrical devices and services entrances and places new ones. Traces hard-to-locate defects or problems. Interprets and applies the National Electrical Code, local codes, building plans, blueprints, wiring diagrams, and engineering drawings, and uses trade formulas to calculate common properties, e.g., voltage, voltage drop and current capability in series and parallel circuits, resistance, inductance, capacitance, power factor, current flow, and temperature and length in single and multile raceways, conduits, gutters, and cable trays.Plans and lays out trades work which includes but is not limited to measuring, cutting, routing, placement, type, size, gauge, balance, load, continuity, and safe operation of electrical lines, circuits, systems, equipment and controls.
