Manages and participates in team installing power and grounding for complex communication equipment, ensuring proper electrical connection and grounding. Supports US Army systems on site whenever and wherever deployed. Able to maneuver in small spaces and lift up to 50lbs. Immediately deployable to worldwide locations, in potentially hazardous work environments, to perform QRC/ technical support to US forces. Electrician Job Description: Electricians are responsible for electrical diagnostic tasks, repair, and reading blueprints as applicable to facility and diesel/electric locomotive maintenance. The electrician must be able to operate various tools and equipment. In addition, the electrician may also conduct routine maintenance, repair, and service of locomotives. Electricians are subject to working various shifts with the possibility of rest days being scheduled on non-weekend days. Electricians may be subject to working overtime which would be paid at the overtime rate. Training Norfolk Southern provides a 6-12 week long comprehensive training program at our facility in McDonough, Georgia, 35 miles south of Atlanta on I-75. McDonough Training Center combines classroom and field instruction. Norfolk Southern will reimburse travel to and from McDonough. While in McDonough, Norfolk Southern will provide hotel lodging and a meal allowance. The majority of training for Student Electricians will be done at their home point where they will be paid the applicable rate as listed below. Pay Rates During the first eight weeks of employment, Electricians will earn $450 per week. Applicants who do not qualify as Journeymen are subject to a 2-year rate progression, after which they will receive full rates. The full union scale for Electrician is $25.07. The rate progression for Student Electricians is as outlined: Year Percent of Full Rate Approximate Amount/hour 1st year 75% of full rate $18.80/hour 2nd year 80% of full rate $20.06/hour After 2 years 100% of full rate $25.07/hour To progress to the next rate level in each step, employees must perform 244 creditable days of training at the current step rate. Upon completion of 488 creditable days of training, Student Electricians will be considered journeymen. No reimbursement for expenses will be given. Extended stay (hotel) housing in this area runs approx. $350 wk OSHA 10 or 30 hour (with certificate of proof) a plus. Strong paced work ethic a plus.
