Description:
Welds metal components together to fabricate or repair metal parts of Aircraft, Engines, Support Equipment, and related systems, components, and accessories. Must have experience using various types of machines to perform, but not limited to welding, soldering, shaping, milling, cutting, grinding, shearing, forming, and dimpling metals and associated materials. May be required to perform Collateral Duty Quality Control Inspector (CDQCI) duties when designated and authorized. May be required to perform duties of Lead when designated and authorized. Required to handle hazardous materials in performance of assigned duties. Must be customer oriented. Familiarization with OPNAVINST 4790.2 Series and other applicable Navy Instructions, Maintenance Instruction (MIMs), Illustrated Parts Breakdowns (IPBs), Technical Directives (TDs), manufacturer's manuals and company instructions. Maintain knowledge of material safety data sheet and applicable safety precautions. May be required to become Aircraft and Support Equipment Wheel and Tire qualified and certified. Must have a valid state operator's license and be able to pass the Government licensing requirements. Must be able to read, speak, write legibly, and understand the English language. Physical Effort: Climbing, standing, stooping, bending, pushing, kneeling, stretching, extensive walking and working in tiring uncomfortable positions. May require lifting of objects whose weight normally will not exceed fifty (50) pounds Weld, inspect, heat treat, repair, and/or manufacture aircraft, and related support equipment, components, and accessories in accordance with Maintenance Instruction Manuals (MIMs), Illustrated Parts Breakdowns (IPBs), Technical Directives (TDs), Navy instructions, and manufacturer's manuals, company instructions and other approved data. Determine welding techniques and machine settings to be used, assemble and set up parts to be welded and make required welds following guides such as various resistance controls, charts, specifications, accepted shop practices, and oral or written instructions. Operate various inert gas and electric resistance welding machinery such as spot, seam, and flash, or use a manual gas torch welding process, such as oxyacetylene, to join a variety of different types of parts or components. Design and fabricate various parts using blueprints, drawings, charts, and samples. Perform preventative maintenance on assigned shop and support equipment. Coordinate with supervision and Quality Control to resolve questions concerning serviceability and/or on repair procedures. Assist with ordering parts, tools, materials, and equipment as required. Documents work accomplished or Maintenance Action Forms (MAFs) or WECMS/GOLD System. Maintain cleanliness of the work center and around your assigned work area. Responsible for adhering to all applicable Foreign Object Damage (FOD) prevention rules and regulations including participation in FOD walk down when directed. Responsible for adhering to the company tool control program. May be required to perform simple computer input and extraction functions. Comply with established general and industrial safety rules and regulations as applicable to the contract, facilities and job assignment. Perform corrosion control cleaning, prevention, and treatment as required. Comply with established hazardous waste program and Local, State, and Federal Environmental Protection Agency regulations. May be required to perform off-site services on assigned detachments. Assist when directed to ensure safety, security, and preservation of Government-owned and company-owned equipment. May be required to perform duties of other positions if qualified and assist other technicians, workers, and mechanics in the performance of their duties during periods of personal or sick leave, vacation, breaks, reserve duty, or during increased workload periods. May be required to wear a respirator while performing assigned duties. May be required to perform duties of Chemical Waste Custodian, or Accumulation Point Coordinator when authorized and designated. Perform other reasonable related incidental duties when directed. Qualifications Must have a minimum of three (3) years recent aircraft and/or support equipment maintenance experience as a welder performing oxyacetylene welding and cutting, electrical arc, electric inert gas, soldering and brazing. Must be qualified in accordance with MIL-STD-1595A. A working knowledge of assigned aircraft, engine, and support equipment inspection, troubleshooting, repair, modification and maintenance procedures. Knowledge in setting up and operating various electric resistance welding machines, or the use of a wide-range of manual welding processes to make difficult welds. Must qualify under MIL-STD 1595A to weld the following base metal groups: IA, IB IIA, and IV. May be required to qualify under MIL-STD 1595A to weld the following base metal groups: IIB, IIIA, V, VI, and VII. Must have extensive knowledge of aircraft sheet metal and component repair, heat treating procedures, and equipment. Must be able to read, write, speak and understand English. This classification activity is usually accomplished in a hanger/shop/flight line environment and as such requires the scope of physical movements and postures normally associated with these activities. May be required to lift objects whose weight normally will not exceed 50 pounds. Special vision abilities required to perform this job are close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust and focus. Must successfully pass a company physical prior to employment/promotion and annually thereafter. The diversity of work conditions may range from an environment where there is little or no physical discomfort, to an environment where inclement weather may subject individual to severe changes of temperature, wind, rain, etc. May be required to work in areas where high noise hazards prevail. May be exposed to fumes or airborne particles. May be exposed to electrical shock hazards.
