Description OILSANDS BACKGROUND: The Canadian Oil Sands Business Unit is rapidly growing and a significant element of ConocoPhillips Upstream portfolio and strategy. The Surmont Project is located in NE Alberta with the first 27,000bpd phase having been constructed and started up in 2007. COP is operator of the project and has approved construction of the 90,000 bpd Phase 2 project targeting first steam and oil in 2014. A number of subsequent projects are in the planning stage within Oil Sands. The Oil Sands operations use a process known as SAGD (Steam Assisted Gravity Drainage) to recover the oil sands. The operation includes i) Wells pads with horizontal well pairs (steam injectors and Oil Sands producers) and associated facilities, ii) Central Processing Facility consisting of Oil treating, diluent blending, water treating and the steam plant, iii) support functions such as warehouse, administration, accommodation camp, etc. Technology development and application will be a key aspect of this operation and can improve cost and recovery to extend the ~50 year life. Reporting to the Operations Manager, the Maintenance Supervisor will provide leadership and direction to the Oil Sands Surmont Maintenance team in order to guarantee a robust maintenance program is developed. As well, to ensure that the Surmont Phase 1 facilities' equipment and machinery function safely and productively, within budget and available resources, with the objective of meeting unit business goals. Responsibilities * Execute the Maintenance Program and provide functional expertise of maintenance trades and contractor support to deliver world class maintenance for the SAGD operation * Provide tactical daily leadership and direction for the maintenance staff of the Surmont Phase 1 SAGD facility, including personal safety involvement, ERP, and cost control * Work with Operations Manager & MRMS Project team to implement improvements in maintenance planning, and execution (i.e. staffing, defect elimination, RCM and budgeting/forecasting) * As the senior COP maintenance leader you will be responsible for maintenance staff development, with specific focus on COP core values, including safety leadership, and performance management. * Lead, manage and support the policies, goals, efforts, and programs of CPC's Health, Safety and Environmental (HSE) Management System * Monitor activities for compliance and ensure HSE issues are given primary consideration in all activities undertaken within area of responsibility * Provide daily direction and priority task focus for maintenance planning and work execution in support of plant and field operations * Work with the Ops Manager and Ops Support Manager to develop a scalable maintenance organization that will support growing Oil Sands asset base * Manage planned/unplanned maintenance costs, including timely reporting * Monitor Key Performance Indicators and action to manage daily/weekly/monthly priorities focused on driving towards world class maintenance planning execution * Champion and lead HSE&SD efforts within maintenance team with support from local Sr. HSE&SD advisor * Plan and schedule maintenance activities with Operations Supervisors, and interface with various other internal and external stakeholders, including core contractors * Supervise and direct staff development including training competency and leadership capabilities * Engage maintenance staff in and support application of Operations Excellence, including assessments, and strategic improvement plans, with a specific focus on L&M, M&R, P&S, HSE, and HP **This position will be based at the Surmont site in Fort McMurray, Alberta on a 28/28 rotational basis.
