COP is operator of the project and has approved construction of the 90,000 bpd Phase 2 project targeting first steam and oil in 2014. A number of subsequent projects are in the planning stage within Oil Sands. The Oil Sands operations use a process known as SAGD (Steam Assisted Gravity Drainage) to recover the oil sands. The operation includes i) Wells pads with horizontal well pairs (steam injectors and Oil Sands producers) and associated facilities, ii) Central Processing Facility consisting of Oil treating, diluent blending, water treating and the steam plant, iii) support functions such as warehouse, administration, accommodation camp, etc. Technology development and application will be a key aspect of this operation and can improve cost and recovery to extend the ~50 year life.Reporting to the Operations Manager, the Maintenance Supervisor will provide leadership and direction to the Oil Sands Surmont Maintenance team in order to guarantee a robust maintenance program is developed.
