Job DescriptionThe Maintenance Mechanic provides preventative maintenance and repairs for a wide range of hospital equipment and utility systems, plumbing, electrical, HVAC, light construction, painting, and grounds keeping. Additional responsibilities may include security and floor care as assigned. The Maintenance Mechanic adheres to the regulatory requirements of Joint Commission and all other applicable federal, state and local regulatory and accreditation agencies. Works independently in the specific time frame as assigned per job task under direction of the Maintenance manager/supervisor on installation, maintenance and repair of mechanical, electrical, HVAC pneumatic, oxygen and communication systems. Performs all types of control maintenance, major types of work for building construction repair and equipment overhaul. Maintains a working knowledge of all facility systems and all applicable regulatory standards. Effective troubleshooting and diagnostic skills required. Training in electrical, plumbing, HVAC, carpentry, boiler maintenance, fire alarms, sprinkler systems, telecommunication systems and various hospital equipment preferred. Previous light industrial, commercial operations or hospital maintenance experience desirable but not mandatory.* Valid driver¿s license may be required.Total Education, Vocational Training and Experience: * High school graduate or equivalent work experience required. * Previous experience in the areas of preventative maintenance, equipment and systems repair, HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and/or construction required. * Previous experience in a healthcare setting preferred. Skills and Abilities: * Ability to speak, read, write and comprehend English.Physical Requirements: * Good visual acuity and ability to communicate * Ability to lift, push, pull, and retrieve approximately 90 percent of the time. * Ability to safely lift objects weighing up to 50 pounds on a regular basis, with occasional lifting of up to 100 pounds with assistance. * Ability to demonstrate safe retrieval skills from above head to floor level with objects up to 30 pounds. * Ability to ascend or descend ladders, stand for extended periods of time, stoop, kneel, crouch and crawl. * Ability to exhibit manual dexterity including extending, seizing, grasping, holding, and turning with arms and hands.Machines, Equipment Used: * Power tools and hand tools * Floor care equipment including auto scrubber, buffer, and carpet extractor. * Motor vehicle. * General office equipment such as telephone, copy machine, fax machine, calculator, computer. * May be required to work weekdays and/or weekends, evenings and or night shifts if needed to meet deadlines. * May be required to work on religious and/or legal holidays on scheduled days/shifts. * Will be required to work as necessary during disaster situations, i.e. before, during or after a disaster.
