We are currently looking for a Maintenance Specialist to deploy to McMurdo, South Pole or Palmer Antarctic research stations on a contract basis from approximately October 2010 to February 2011 and February 2011 to October 2011. We are looking for Primary and Alternate employees to fill all contract positions. The Primary is first in line for the position. The Alternate is next in line to deploy should the Primary be unable to meet deployment requirements. Responsibilities: Responsible as lead person for the maintenance of buildings at U.S. Antarctic stations. This includes daily liaison with Science Support, tenants and other station personnel and coordination with the Preventive Maintenance Foreman and/or the Foremen of other crafts. Responsibilities include the management of small maintenance projects that fall within the work area division including the coordination of other crafts, equipment, tools, parts and schedules with reporting responsibilities to the Work Order Supervisor, Maintenance Coordinator and PM Foreman. Conducts all operations in accordance with RPSC's Operations and Management Manual, CSEC's Operations and Maintenance Manual, and standard operating procedures. Maintains communication, to include e-mail and regular meetings with the Preventive Maintenance Foreman and/or Maintenance Supervisor, regularly reporting status of all facilities equipment, and significant issues and events within his or her work area division. Prepares and submits procurement requests to maintain inventory to repair individual items of equipment. Coordinates with Preventive Maintenance Foreman with appropriate suggestions for edits and additions to preventive maintenance, equipment/parts associations and data integrity within the maintenance database. Participates in RPSC training programs and meetings. Insures all facilities or equipment are maintained and operated safely and efficiently. Responsible for helping out in the day-to-day operations of a very large maintenance crew up to and including the ability to fill in for the Preventive Maintenance Foreman when necessary. Responsible as mentor and trainer of subordinate and lesser skilled and/or less experienced maintenance personnel. Implements and enforces Preventive Maintenance Program including inventory and work order look-up in the MAPCON database. Maintains detailed records, logs and accounts, interprets trends and initiates resolutions to issues accordingly. Administrative duties include report writing, message traffic, and daily record keeping as required by supervisor. May be required to work outside on various job sites in extreme cold weather conditions. Must be able to lift the safety regulation maximum. Responsible for implementing and maintaining a safe workplace program and ensuring that safety is the highest priority in the workplace. Performs other duties as required. Qualifications: REQUIRED SKILLS : High school diploma or equivalent is required. Minimum four years documented facilities maintenance experience to include all phases of preventive and corrective maintenance, including industrial and/or commercial facilities maintenance is required. Experience on refrigeration, HVAC, plumbing, electrical and fuel oil burners is required. Career record must include the demonstrated ability to work independently and supervise others. Ability to read and understand blueprints and specifications is required. Minimum intermediate level computer skills with spreadsheets, word processing, e-mail and databases is required. DESIRED SKILLS : HVAC-R license preferred. Experience with PLC/DDC, VFD, HMI, and automated building systems is preferred.
