The primary purpose of these positions are to perform grounds and building care-taking and janitorial work throughout the park. Performs minor, light duty electrical, painting, carpentry and other work in the maintenance of park facilities. Operates power hand and stationary tools. Utilizes chain saws, brush cutters, picks, shovels and rakes. May assist with some trail work. Operates trucks to one ton capacity and pulls utility trailers.   Anticipated beginning date mid-April 2010 through October 2010. AREA INFORMATION/HOUSING INFORMATION: Colorado National Monument preserves one of the grandest landscapes of American West. The historic Rim Rock Drive offers 23 miles of breathtaking panoramic views and 19 overlooks. Over 43 miles of trails lead across mesa tops and to spectacular overlooks or back country canyons. The monument has a visitation of over 700,000 visitors and provides many recreational uses such bicycling along Rim Rock Drive, camping in the 80-site campground, hiking, rock climbing, picnicking. The monument is located 7 miles from Fruita and 17 miles from Grand Junction, Colorado. The surrounding area has a population of approximately 140,000. Most community facilities are located in Grand Junction, including Mesa State College, several hospitals, shopping facilities and churches. The climate is typically dry high desert, with summer highs in the 85 to 100 degrees and winter lows occasionally dropping below zero. Government housing is not available.
