The incumbent of this position will perform various aspects of welding, cutting, and metal fabrication tasks using various forms of welding and equipment.* Welds horizontal, vertical and overhead various shapes and sizes of common metals and alloys using oxygen-acetylene, electric arc, TIG or MIG processes. * Cuts, bends, forms and shapes common metals and alloys of various sizes, with oxygen-acetylene, hydraulic or electric operated equipment.* Tests tanks, voids, compartments and containers for gas or explosive deficiency, prior to hot work operations as directed by NAVSEA Technical Manuals, Naval Engineering Manual and other pertinent directives.* Repairs aluminum boats including major leaks or punctures and superstructure refinishing.* Performs operator maintenance on machinery and equipment.* Provides recommended forecast of fiscal resource requirements for tools, supplies, materials, and equipment based on historical data and scheduled work.* Operates shears, saws, nibblers, presses, benders, rollers, blasters and brakes, either manually or power operated as well as welding machines, torches and compressed gas containers.* Operates mobile equipment, jacks, hoists, slings and stands to position material.

Duties will include welding, fabrication, rigging, lifting of heavy dangerous objects in a safe manner, use of fork lifts, use of scissors lifts, use of cutting equipment, torch, plasma saw, assembly and painting of projects as well as general repair and maintenance of shop equipment. High School education Ability to interpret engineering drawings and develop finished product from these plans. Relevant fabrication shop experience. Owns own hand tools to perform welding and fabrication tasks General knowledge of fluid power systems (pneumatics, hydraulics) as well as some electrical wiring. Good welding skills; BMH Robotics to help with training. General Responsibilities: Work with engineered weldments drawings Ability to understand standard welding symbols Works from sketches/drawings to produce parts from sheetmetal, plate and bar stock Assemble equipment from fabricated parts, including weldments. Ability to set up and operate saws, shear, press brake, punches and ironworker Help where needed - assembly - painting Repair and maintain shop equipment and facilities as required. Produce high quality weldments with low rejection rate Be a team player and contributor in shop Show mutual respect for coworkers Show up to work every day and on time Other duties as assigned by Direct Manager Other Occasional overtime required when necessary.
