Dean, Inc. is an equal opportunity employer M/F/V/D Required Skills We currently have a PreFabrication Welder position available located in our Caroline County, VA location. The Fabrication Welder is responsible for a variety of welding duties, including performing multiple welding processes, including fusion welding, on both, ferrous and non-ferrous metals, layout and fabrication of precision weldments from blueprints utilizing industry standard fabrication methods; meeting demands and completing work orders in a timely manner; ensuring availability and functioning of required items; and ensuring safety and resolving immediate safety concerns. The job responsibilities include but are not limited to: Gas Tungsten Arc Welding (GTAW) / Tungsten Inert Gas (TIG) welding and Gas Metal Arc Welding (GMAW) / Metal Inert Gas (MIG) welding / fusion welding of milled steel, aluminum, carbon steel, and stainless steel. Reading and understanding complicated shop drawings and various weld form symbols on blue prints, understanding size of fillet forms. Operating and maintaining a variety of equipment used in welding and metal fabrication, including, but not limited to welders, grinders, cutting torches, floats, edger’s, band saw, chop saw, break, shears, drill press,  and other similar equipment and machinery. Performing a full range of welding work including structural fabrication, installation, repair, and maintenance tasks. Set-up, layout, and tack-up of various precision frame weldments and brackets, including tack up of structures to tight tolerance and welding out precision frames to exact tolerances. Square up and welding various geometries of components. Adjusting, troubleshooting, and operating all types of welding machines. Required Experience Requirements: High School diploma/GED 3+ years experience in welding fabrication and design Must have active AWS GMAW or MIL-STD-1595A GMAW certification Must be able to display proficient knowledge in AWS D1.1 and AWS D1.3 Codes Gas Metal Arc Welding (GMAW). Position Summary Plan, layout, fabricate, assemble, manufacture, install and repair light gauge metal parts, equipment and products, utilizing knowledge of working characteristics of metallic and nonmetallic materials, machining, and layout techniques. Use hand tools, power tools, machines, and equipment. Read and interpret blueprints, sketches, or product specifications to determine sequence and methods of fabricating, assembling and installing light gauge metal products. Use nonmetallic material, such as plastic or fiberglass, according to product specifications. Layout and mark dimensions and reference lines on material using scribers, dividers, squares and rulers. Apply knowledge of shop mathematics and layout techniques to develop and trace patterns to product or parts (or use templates). Set up and operate fabricating machines such as shears, brakes, presses, forming rolls and routers to cut, bend block and form or straighten materials. Shape metal material over an anvil, block or other form using hand tools. Trim, file, grind, de-burr, buff and smooth surfaces, using hand tools or portable power tools. Weld, solder, bolt, rivet, screw, clip, caulk and bond component parts to assemble products using hand tools, power tools, and equipment. Install assemblies in a supportive framework according to blueprints using hand tools, power tools, and lifting and handling devices. Inspect assemblies and installation for conformance to specifications using measuring instruments required. Good housekeeping habits, strict adherence to safety, high mental/visual effort and frequent travel/overtime are required. Security Clearance DoD Secret Security Clearance required and/or the ability to obtain a secret clearance. Duties amp Responsibilities Reports directly to the Production Supervisor in the performance of his/her responsibilities. In the absence of the Supervisor, he/she will report to an individual designated by the Supervisor. These responsibilities include but are not limited to the following 1. Strict adherence to corporate, federal, state and local safety regulations prior to setting up or operating any machinery. In sure that all OII Personnel Protective Equipment (PPE) are worn and that all damaged PPE is discarded. Read and understand OII PPE Policy. 2. Maintain good housekeeping practices turning off machines when not in use, disposing of waste properly, sweeping the area, etc. 3. Equipment other than those required by the “Required Tool List” maybe checked out from the Tool Room. All tools checked out from the Tool Room are your financial responsibility. Return tools/equipment to proper location and report any lost, missing, stolen or damaged items to the Facilities Supervisor in accordance with Process Instruction (PI-069). 4. Assist the Facilities Supervisor, as directed by your Supervisor, for conducting preventive and corrective maintenance on company equipment. 5. Ensure all tools listed on the “Production Required Tools List” are available for use within two weeks of your employment at OII. 6. Qualify as a Welder in accordance with OII Process Instructions (PI-022). 7. Ensure that all requirements of the OII Quality Assurance Manual are followed when invoked by Task Group Instructions (TGI), Process Instructions (PI) and/or other guidance given by management. 8. The use of corporate credit cards are used for travel, these travel expenditures that are caused by corporate travel are to reconciled as soon as possible. It will be your responsibility to submit travel claims weekly to ensure prompt account reconciliation. 9. Follow detailed repair procedures and instructions (e.g. QA packages steps, RECs, CWPs, FWPs, TGIs etc.) required to complete the production operations. 10. Perform as Team Member, cooperating with the efforts of other trades during an installation, modification or repair operations. 11. Prepare Condition Reports to document unsatisfactory condition(s) identified during the production operation (i.e. repair, modification, etc.). 12. Coordinating the efforts of other trades during an installation, modification or repair operation. 13. Read and understand basic terminology, blueprints, drawings and schematics to plan installation, modification or repair prior to commencing the process. Materials are costly and the possibility of damage or spoilage is high without proper preparation. 14. Fabricate and install fixtures, jigs, supports and targets to ensure proper alignment during welding processes. 15. Select welding filler materials, joint design, proper heat ranges and most effective or required welding process/procedure to ensure quality welding operations. 16. Ensure and assume responsibility for Level I and SUBSAFE material controls in accordance with Process Instruction (PI-008). Qualifications High School/GED with Apprenticeship Diploma and additional vocational courses in welding and/or allied process or technical school graduate and/or military and/or civilian sheetmetal/welding experience in a repair department or shipyard. Ability to perform with minimal supervision. Knowledge and practical skills tests required. Level-I Qualifications One to five years experience in the above General Qualifications. Level-II Qualifications Five to eight years experience in the above General Qualifications. Level-III Qualifications Eight to ten years experience in the above General Qualifications. Specialist Qualifications Ten or more years experience in the above General Qualifications.
