Summary of Role:
The Facilities Maintenance Manager is a hands-on leadership role responsible for ensuring the safety, efficiency, and compliance of all building systems and infrastructure across multiple Pittsburgh facilities. Success in this role involves minimizing downtime, proactively identifying facility-related issues, and leading both internal teams and external contractors to maintain a clean, compliant, and well-functioning facility. This position blends strategic oversight with hands-on troubleshooting, making it ideal for someone who enjoys both managing people and working with tools.
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee preventive and corrective maintenance of HVAC, compressed air systems, plumbing, chillers, and other industrial components.
- Plan, schedule, and execute facility maintenance activities across multiple Pittsburgh locations.
- Conduct daily walkthroughs to identify and resolve facility concerns.
- Ensure all GMP and Quality issues are documented and addressed promptly.
- Respond and escalate safety issues appropriately and in a timely manner.
- Supervise maintenance and repair of roofing and flooring systems (e.g., concrete, tile, epoxy, carpet).
- Coordinate plumbing system repairs and upgrades to avoid service disruptions.
- Maintain detailed records through the CMMS (corrective work order system).
- Manage vendor relationships and coordinate with contractors on facility-related projects.
- Lead facility-related capital projects and develop/maintain a facility maintenance budget.
- Ensure compliance with all regulatory bodies, including OSHA, EPA, NFPA, and local building codes, as well as GMP, SQF, and BRC requirements.
- Support root cause analysis initiatives and drive implementation of agreed-upon corrective actions.
- Participate in Production Team meetings and Quality Action Register reviews to stay aligned with operational goals.
- Promote and enforce a strong safety culture throughout the maintenance team.
- Coordinate facility shutdowns and startups in collaboration with operations and leadership teams.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Strong mechanical knowledge of facility systems, including HVAC, compressed air, and chillers.
- Skilled in the use of CMMS software for scheduling, tracking, and documenting maintenance tasks.
- Strong leadership and communication skills with the ability to manage cross-functional relationships.
- Detail-oriented with excellent problem-solving and organizational abilities.
- Experience interpreting blueprints, technical manuals, and schematic diagrams.
- Familiarity with GMP standards and food manufacturing environments.
- Ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple sites simultaneously.
- Comfortable working in industrial environments including rooftops, mechanical rooms, and confined spaces.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Facilities Management, Mechanical Engineering, or related field preferred; equivalent experience will be considered.
- 5+ years of facilities management experience in industrial, commercial, or manufacturing settings.
- Experience managing vendors, contractors, and capital budgets.
- Working knowledge of OSHA, EPA, and NFPA regulations.
- Project management experience is preferred.
- Physical ability to stand, walk, climb ladders, and lift up to 50 pounds.
- Willingness to work in varied physical environments and be on-call for emergencies as needed.
