Highway Maintenance Worker -Crew Leader (61031645)

Acts as crew leader when the crew is dispersed and leads the crew in the absence of the foreman. Responsible for the placement of pavement markings, such as stock bars, arrows, crosswalks, and railroad crossings or thermoplastic. Responsible for the repairing, replacing and installing of signs requiring manual labor such as digging holes and drive posts, etc. Operates medium and heavy duty equipment in the maintenance and construction of state maintained roads, highways and bridges. Operates power tools such as chainsaws, drills, and augers requiring to be able to dig holes and drive posts, etc. Flags traffic and assists with setting-up work zones. Operates fork lift in loading and unloading signs and material. Assists with emergency and inclement weather operations, may include extended hours and/or 12 hour shifts. Operates a standard dump truck with snowplow attachment during required operations. Two (2) years of related work experience; or an approved acceptable equivalence. Necessary Special Requirement: A valid motor vehicle operators license is required. Requires attainment of a Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) within six (6) months of placement in the position.

The physical demands for the essential functions involves bending, stooping reaching, twisting, climbing, balancing, kneeling, pushing, pulling, and grasping. Must be able to lift up to 50lbs. Walking for extended periods, treading rough terrain, working in close proximity to motoring traffic, and in natural environmental hazards. May be required to work hours outside the normal scheduled work week; especially during inclement weather and/or other departmental related emergencies.
