This position is responsible for assisting in the repair and maintenance of county buildings.

Major Duties

  • Assists in the installation, maintenance and repair of electrical components.
  • Assists in the installation of cable, pipe and wiring.
  • Assists in the completion of plumbing and carpentry maintenance and repair as needed.
  • Assists in the installation, repair and maintenance of doors and locks.
  • Paints interior and exterior surfaces.
  • Changes light bulbs and ballasts.
  • Responds to after-hours emergencies.
  • Moves furniture.
  • Performs any other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Knowledge of building repair and maintenance principles.
  • Knowledge of the tools and equipment used in building repair and maintenance.
  • Knowledge of department policies and procedures.
  • Skill in diagnostic troubleshooting.
  • Skill in the operation of job-related tools, vehicles and equipment.
  • Skill in oral and written communication.
  • Ability to communicate orally and in writing in the English language and orally in the Spanish language.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED from an accredited institution, preferred.
  • At least one ( 1 ) year of general maintenance experience.

Complexity/Scope of Work

  • The work consists of related maintenance duties. Inclement weather contributes to the complexity of the position.
  • The purpose of this position is to assist in the maintenance and repair of county buildings. Success in this position ensures safe and well-maintained buildings and facilities.

Physical Demands/Work Environment

Occasionally

  • Working in low temperatures.
  • Working in hazardous conditions.
  • Working small and/or enclosed spaces.
  • Working in adverse environmental conditions is expected.
  • Light work that includes carrying objects up to 20 pounds.
  • Medium work that includes carrying objects up to 50 pounds.

Constantly

  • Ascending or descending ladders, stairs, scaffolding, ramps, poles, and the like.
  • Moving self in different positions to accomplish tasks in various environments including tight and confined spaces.
  • Remaining in a stationary position, often standing or sitting for prolonged periods.
  • Moving about to accomplish tasks or moving from one worksite to another.
  • Adjusting or moving objects up to 30 pounds in all directions.
  • Communicating with others to exchange information.
  • Repeating motions that may include the wrists, hands, and/or fingers.
  • Operating machinery and/or power tools.
  • Operating motor vehicles or heavy equipment.
  • Assessing the accuracy, neatness, and thoroughness of the work assigned.
  • Driving a County vehicle or a personal vehicle.
  • Working in high temperatures.
  • Outdoor elements such as precipitation and wind.
  • Working in noisy environments.
  • Sedentary work that primarily involves sitting/standing.

Other Requirements/Information

  • Must possess a valid and current Texas driver's license.
  • Drug and Alcohol Policy applies to this job. Pre-employment drug/alcohol testing, Motor Vehicle Record (MVR), and criminal background checks are required.
  • This position is covered by Civil Service; therefore, is subject to the Civil Service Rules and Regulations in addition to all other Webb County policies.

Valid Texas Driver's License*

  • If the applicant holds an out-of-state license, a State of Texas Driver's License must be obtained prior to employment.
