About The Outer Banks Hospital
The Outer Banks Hospital is a full-service critical access hospital offering a wide range of inpatient and outpatient services. The 21-bed facility is designed to meet the needs of the coastal community, whose year-round population of approximately 35,000 swells to about 350,000 in the summer season. Its campus includes four ORs, a medical/surgical unit, a labor & delivery suite with a dedicated caesarian section OR, a full rehabilitation therapy center, cancer treatment and radiation therapy center, and a 24-hour emergency department.
OBH is fully accredited, provides high quality care in a compassionate environment to all patients, regardless of their ability to pay, and has been nationally recognized for outstanding patient care.
Position Summary
Ensures the proper operation of boilers, chillers, cooling towers, hot water systems and tanks, steam systems, condensate systems, heat exchangers, pumps, air compressors, HVAC equipment, and other mechanical and electrical systems of the facility. May be asked to perform duties as a Security Guard. If needed, will assist the patient care staff with restraining a patient when needed. He/she will receive the same level training as nursing personnel pertaining to the restraining policy, techniques, indications, hazards and alternative methods annually and on an as needed basis. Is an active member of the Code Red team and plays a significant role in the Code Pink team. Plays a significant role in both minor and major disasters. Is responsible for the helicopter pad and lights when helicopters come and leave the facility.
Minimum Requirements
- High school graduate or the equivalent required. Must have knowledge of mechanical and general building maintenance skills required.
- Boiler operations experience or physical plant background of at least four years.
- Trade school graduate may be acceptable in lieu of experience.
- Demonstrate ability to read and interpret blueprints and design sketches.
- Hospital experience preferred.
