Refuse Container Assembler and Repairer - EXAM

Under immediate supervision, is responsible for assembling, repairing, and distributing refuse containers in designated areas of the City of Columbus; performs related duties as required. (Any one position may not include all of the duties listed, nor do the examples cover all of the duties that may be performed.)

• Assembles refuse containers to be distributed and used by residents of the City of Columbus
• Ensures that container lids, wheels, handles, and related parts are properly attached to applicable refuse containers
• Distributes and ensures that the initial placement of refuse containers is in their designated area and location
• Receives and responds to service requests from the 311 Service Center, Refuse Collection Supervisors, or other related personnel
• Conducts or performs the necessary maintenance and repair work on refuse containers located in designated areas of the City
• Drives a Mobile Repair Van or Truck to deliver and/or pick-up refuse containers as necessary; plans daily route based on assigned service request addresses
• Drives a Mobile Repair Van or Truck to designated problem areas and takes the necessary actions to repair or replace the applicable refuse container
• Prepares or completes the necessary forms or paperwork describing the location, serial number, and action taken regarding refuse containers in order to maintain an accurate inventory system
• Cleans and maintains safe operating conditions of assigned Mobile Repair Van or Truck as warranted
• Operates a two-way radio to communicate with supervisors and other personnel concerning the repair, replacement, or other action taken regarding refuse containers
• Performs pre-inspections and post-inspections of the Mobile Repair Van or Truck
• Completes daily trip sheet to include tracking status of requests and container serial numbers
• Uses the necessary tools and materials to stencil City addresses on fully assembled refuse containers;
• Deconstructs out of service or reclaimed containers for recycling or repurposing; operates a mobile steam cleaner to clean refuse containers as necessary
• May utilize a mobile device to get directions and locate addresses with mapping software, receive messages and communicate with supervisors, and input refuse collection exceptions and other related data.

Completion of the twelfth school grade. A certificate of high school equivalence (GED) will be accepted in lieu of the twelfth grade completion requirement.

Possession of a valid motor vehicle operator's license.

The names of the applicants passing this administration of this exam will be used to create a NEW, OPEN COMPETITIVE, eligible list for this classification. The examination process will consist of a computerized exam weighted 100% covering Name/Number Comparison, Completing Forms, Map Reading, Tool Identification and Usage, Safety, Information Ordering, Problem Sensitivity, and Outlook 2016/2019.

Approved applicants will be notified by mail/email of their scheduled test date and time.

All applicants must complete all phases of the testing process in order to receive a final score. The names of all candidates who pass this examination will remain on the eligible list for two years, unless the eligible list is replaced prior to or extended beyond the two years. If a candidate's name is certified and the candidate is to be considered for employment, the hiring process will include one or more interviews, a criminal background check, and a pre-employment drug test.
