Hours: 8am-5pm, Monday - Friday.

Position Summary: The General Maintenance Technician position is responsible for the overall upkeep of residential and public areas through responsive, accurate and efficient maintenance. This will be accomplished through the performance of simple tasks that require the application of general maintenance and repair techniques, materials, tools, and equipment under the guidance of the Maintenance Supervisor. The General Maintenance Technician serves as a member of the Maintenance team that is responsible for the physical condition of all buildings on campus. This position reports to the Maintenance Supervisor.

  • Performs general maintenance duties involving plumbing and carpentry work, minor electrical and appliance repairs, and repairing furniture, fixtures, and equipment. Completes work order request within the time frame assigned by supervisors.
  • Preventative Maintenance - This individual shall monitor the performance of and perform preventative maintenance on HVAC's, exhaust fans, boilers, chillers, and other mechanical equipment. Refrigeration equipment (i.e. coolers, freezers, ice makers) shall also be monitored and serviced. Monitoring of equipment and preventative maintenance shall be conducted in a professional manner using test meters, manifold gauges, charging cylinders and other testing equipment as required.
  • Must perform repairs on heating, cooling and ventilation equipment located on roof and in mechanical areas. Repairs may involve plumbing and basic electrical work.
  • Accomplishes all work in the order of priority set by supervisor. All work is to be performed in a professional manner, including high quality work practices, safety, neatness, thoroughness, follow up and clean up.
  • Expected to work cooperatively with staff from all departments. Intense cooperation and strong teamwork effort is necessary with co-workers in the department and in other departments to make the program work efficiently.
  • Maintains work areas and equipment/tools in a neat and clean manner that meets safety standards.

Education and/or Experience:

  • Chlorofluorocarbon (CFC) License preferred.
  • One year of experience performing plumbing and carpentry work, minor electrical and appliance repairs, furniture repairs, and fixture/equipment maintenance. Technical school background preferred.
  • Must possess current and valid driver's license consistent with the requirements determined by size of vehicle and laws of the state in which the driver is licensed.
  • Ability to understand and follow instructions in English and perform simple arithmetic.
  • Strong professional communication skills.
  • Ability to work with a diverse team.
  • Organization and time-management skills.
  • Positive attitude and self-motivated.
