Position Overview
Job Title: Lead Day Shift Mechanic
Location: Fife, WA

Schedule: MondayFriday, 6:00 AM 3:00 PM
Compensation
Base Pay Range: $37.00 $43.00+ per hour (based on experience and current wage)
Lead Premium: +$1.00/hour
Tool Allowance: $125/month
Additional Perks: Annual work boot voucher, uniforms provided, stay-on bonuses, and regular wage increases
About the Role
The Lead Day Shift Mechanic is an essential leadership position responsible for maintaining the pulse of the shop floor. This role is about more than just repairsits about servant leadership, team support, and ensuring the shop runs smoothly and safely. The Lead will guide daily operations, support mechanics, and ensure compliance with safety and maintenance standards.
Leadership Responsibilities
Team Support & Oversight
Check in with all mechanics daily: assess needs, offer guidance, and assign tasks
Monitor road call mechanics: track locations, job status, and resource needs
Ensure daily Tailgate Talks occur and are documented
Provide coaching and enforce company policies (e.g., Lock Out/Tag Out, PPE, Wheel Re-Torque)
Conduct safety observations and promote a culture of accountability
Workflow Management
Review and prioritize the daily down list
Assign work based on fleet needs and mechanic availability
Ensure proper shop coverage and staggered breaks/lunches
Oversee completion of Vehicle Condition Reports (VCRs) and work orders
Handle door traffic repairs and assign work to self as needed
Fleetwalk & Communication
Assist with Fleetwalk inspections and ensure defects are addressed
Record all door traffic (DT) and road calls (RC) daily
Send end-of-shift summary emails detailing:
DT & RC activity
Trucks down
Repairs completed
Trucks needing night shift attention
Technical Responsibilities
Diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and brake systems
Use diagnostic tools: Cummins INSITE, Davie-4, Allison DOC, Detroit Diesel software
Perform preventative maintenance and general repairs
Conduct MIG welding as needed
Maintain a clean, safe, and OSHA-compliant work environment
Qualifications
Minimum 3 years of experience in heavy truck maintenance and repair
Proficient with diagnostic software and basic computer skills
Must have personal tools and toolbox
Ability to lift up to 50 lbs unassisted and work in various physical positions
Welding experience is a plus
Class A or B CDL preferred but not required
Strong communication and leadership skills
Safety-Sensitive Role
This is a safety-sensitive position. Employment is contingent upon successfully passing a drug screen, background check, and motor vehicle record (MVR) review.
