Senior Parks/Facilities Maintenance Worker (12254, HL3)

The Prince George's County Department of Parks and Recreation Southern Region Parks Division seeks an experienced Senior Park/General Maintenance Worker to perform general park and building maintenance work involving moderate responsibility, complexity, and variety. The successful candidates will perform various maintenance tasks such as grass cutting, trash removal, athletic field maintenance, trail maintenance, cleaning and repairing park buildings, and snow removal by working in a team environment. This is park/general maintenance work at the experienced level, involving operation of most grounds maintenance equipment. Most assignments are as part of a group, but occasionally may work independently. The selected candidates will perform other related duties as assigned.

Hiring Salary Range: $38,083 - $52,764

The workdays are scheduled for Sunday through Thursday. However, to best suit the work program, the schedule may change to Monday through Friday or Tuesday through Saturday. The work hours are generally 5:00 a.m. to 1:45 p.m., but may also vary depending on your assignment.

Examples of Important Duties

  • Transport custodial equipment from job site to job site
  • Consistently demonstrate thorough knowledge of the use of cleaning chemicals and compounds through proper and regular use while cleaning park and community buildings.
  • Demonstrate a thorough knowledge and properly strip, wax and recondition wood and tile floors as required in a time and safe manner.
  • Safely and properly store all supplies, materials, tools and equipment in designated area following each workday.
  • Effectively and efficiently operate vehicles and all janitorial equipment, such as buffers and vacuum cleaners.
  • Sweeps, mops, vacuums and dusts public building and offices. Strips, waxes and buffs floors. Cleans, deodorizes and disinfects sinks, toilets, etc. Cleans and shampoos carpets. Replaces supplies, collects trash, and moves furniture.
  • Ability to perform minor repairs to buildings and site amenities and complete preventive maintenance tasks.
  • Operates light to medium trucks and various pieces of equipment to perform routine park maintenance tasks such as loading and unloading materials.
  • Assists in setting up, monitoring, and taking down Commission programs and rental events. Informs visitors of rules and regulations. Opens and closes Commission facilities.
  • Interacts with visitors daily in a courteous and effective manner.
  • Snow removal and other related weather duties.
  1. Pass Commission medical examination.
  2. 18 years of age.
  3. Two (2) years of experience in groundskeeping, building maintenance or park maintenance, semi-skilled trade work (HVACR, plumbing, painting, masonry, electrical, carpentry).
  4. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted, which together total two (2) years.
  5. Valid driver's license in accordance with both State and Commission rules and regulations. Driver's license must be unencumbered by restrictions, revocations, suspensions, or points that could limit the employee's ability to drive Commission vehicles or perform driving duties required of their position.

May work weekends, evenings, and holidays. Exposed to weather, dirt, waste, odors, caustic chemicals, pesticides, wildlife, and potentially harmful insects (for example, bees, hornets, wasps, etc.). Ability to lift up to 100 pounds desirable.
