Job Summary
Under the direction of the Electrical Supervisor, the Pit Electrician is responsible for the maintenance, repair, and troubleshooting of electrical systems on electric shovels, electric haul trucks, and associated high-voltage infrastructure in an open-pit mining environment. This position plays a key role in supporting safe and efficient production by ensuring reliable operation of mobile and stationary electrical equipment.
This position follows a rotating 5/4 schedule, alternating between day and night shifts, and includes a comprehensive benefits package. Relocation assistance may be available for highly qualified candidates.
Essential Functions
- Maintain and repair electrical systems on P&H 2800 DC shovels, Komatsu 830AC or DC haul trucks, and other mobile mining equipment
- Perform high voltage cable terminations, splicing, switchgear, and protection relay maintenance
- Inspect and maintain mine substations, transformers, and distribution panels
- Support electrical maintenance in ancillary facilities including wash bays, fuel islands, and operational buildings
- Interpret electrical blueprints, wiring diagrams, and schematics to troubleshoot and resolve faults
- Collaborate with other electricians, mechanics, and supervisors to support continuous improvement and maintain compliance with electrical safety standards
- Complete tasks and inspections in alignment with MSHA and company safety requirements
Qualifications and Skill Requirements
- Journeyman Electrician certification or relevant electrical training (technical or college degree) preferred
- Minimum three years of electrical experience in open pit mining required
- Proficient in high voltage systems, motor control circuits, and programmable logic controllers
- Experience troubleshooting and maintaining electrical systems on electric shovels and haul trucks such as P&H 2800 and Komatsu 830AC or DC
- Familiarity with MSHA regulations and possession of MSHA electrical cards preferred
- Able to read and interpret electrical schematics and technical manuals
- Strong communication skills and ability to work in a team environment
- Must hold a valid drivers license and meet site access requirements
