Utility Maintenance Mechanic

SUMMARY

Under general supervision, this position performs a variety of skilled and semi-skilled tasks in the repair maintenance and preventive maintenance of the grounds, buildings, and equipment at the River Road Reclamation Treatment Plant. This position will be required to work shifts including evenings, weekends, holidays, overtime as needed by the department, and during inclement weather. This position is considered weather essential personnel. Subject to after hour and weekend call backs

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Conducts daily inspection of pumps, motors and equipment, buildings and grounds for needed service and maintenance.
  • Performs a variety of skilled and semi-skilled tasks in the repair and maintenance of all types of equipment, structures and grounds.
  • Performs repairs and replacements of pipe above and below the ground.
  • Completes preventive maintenance forms and records of work completed, reporting status to supervisor.
  • Operates light equipment and trucks.
  • Handles potentially hazardous chlorine and sulfur dioxide in ton cylinders according to standard safety procedures.
  • Performs grounds maintenance including mowing, pruning, trimming, weed eating, and weed spraying, seeding, watering, and other landscape related projects.
  • Keeps assigned work areas, buildings and equipment clean.
  • Assists Equipment Operator in repairs of moving equipment.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Requires a High School Diploma or its equivalent and a minimum of one year of relevant maintenance experience required. Valid Texas Driver's License required.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  • Ability to operate small office equipment, including copy machines or multi-line telephone systems.
  • Ability to operate computers for data entry and word processing.
  • Ability to learn new software and improve processes with existing software.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skill.
  • Ability to work cooperatively in a team setting.
  • Ability to safely operate and repair medium equipment and machinery, such as scissor lifts, forklifts, vehicles or commercial mowers.
  • Ability to safely operate and repair heavy or complex machinery, such as construction equipment, or water plants.
