Reports to: Facilities Manager

Supervises: All appropriate staff as required.

Pay Grade : Management

Compensation: $46,593 - $58,242

Primary Purpose:
The Maintenance Supervisor, under the direction of the Facilities Manager, maintains the school facilities and grounds to provide all students with a physical learning environment that is safe, clean, attractive, pleasant and smooth functioning. To minimize operational costs and protect the district's investment in buildings, grounds, equipment, and materials. The Maintenance Supervisor supervises the work activities performed by our maintenance staff. The Maintenance Supervisor's responsibilities include scheduling staff shifts, monitoring staff attendance, reporting absences, and conducting staff performance reviews. You should also be able to make recommendations to management regarding promotions, transfers, and dismissals .

Essential Job Funcitons:

  • Instruct, supervise, and personally perform in the safe, proper, and efficient use of custodial and maintenance equipment.
  • Hires and trains maintenance department staff.
  • Organizes and oversees the schedules and work of maintenance staff.
  • Monitors the district's work order system.
  • Handles discipline and termination of employees as needed and in accordance with company policy.
  • Ensure maintenance and repair work is completed correctly and in a timely manner.
  • Examine school buildings on a regular basis for minor repairs and maintenance.
  • Schedule work time, work orders and daily duties for assigned custodial staff.
  • Evaluates systems or facilities to determine maintenance or repairs that need to be performed.
  • Assist in ordering maintenance and custodial supplies and maintaining the inventory of such supplies.
  • Maintain personnel, financial and related records; prepare written and computerized reports as requested.
  • Report immediately to the school's Principal and Facilities Manager any major repairs needed

  • Accept responsibility for maintenance work such as replacing worn or defective switches, faucets, plumbing fixtures, and the repairing of fencing, walls, lockers, ceilings etc.
  • Assist in the layout, inspection of work and assisting the crew.
  • Assist in the selection, assignment, scheduling, supervision, and training of the custodial staffs.
  • Advise on the hiring of contractors to perform certain minor/major maintenance or repair services.
  • Assist in conducting meetings of the custodial staff when it is deemed necessary for purposes of training or morale.
  • Establish and supervise summer cleaning programs and set up vacation schedules for the custodial
  • Maintain a high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality of information about students and staff
  • Participate in in-service programs as assigned by Facilities Manager.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  • High School diploma or GED preferred
  • Experience as a custodian or janitor is preferred.
  • Must be able to handle multiple tasks at once.
  • Ability to communicate effectively.
  • Reliable and frequent attendance is required.
  • Teamwork mentality is strongly preferred.

Knowledges, Skills, and Abilities

  • Language: Read, analyze, and interpret professional journals, Board policy, administrative procedures and forms and governmental regulations and guidance; Complete forms, write reports and engage in written correspondence; present information effectively and respond to questions; Speak to students and parents in groups of various sizes, as well as engage in one-on-one communication; Demonstrate excellent listening, interpersonal, and non-verbal communication skills.
  • Computation: Work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference; Apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios and proportions to practical situations.
  • Reasoning: Solve a variety of problems in many different situations; Interpret instructions presented in written, oral, diagram or schedule form; Apply knowledge of current educational theory and instructional techniques when presenting subject matter to students; Draw reasoned conclusions and make professional recommendations supported by data and research; Demonstrate executive functions such as planning, organizing, remember and regulating information and behavior as they pertain to student performance and achievement.
  • Other skills and Abilities: Identify needs and abilities of individual students; Establish and maintain effective relationships with students, staff, parents and administrators; Perform multiple tasks simultaneously; Maintain confidentiality of student information.
  • Technology: Perform basic computer functions such as word processing and internet use; Use district software, including smart boards, projectors and other instructional technology provided by the district.
  • Physical Demands: Must have the ability to speak and hear in a typical school environment, which is often noisy and active; Must be able to read handwritten or printed material.
