Performs a variety of skilled duties as needed to ensure timely maintenance, repair and upkeep of Taos Regional Airport runways and associated pavements, vehicles and buildings. Performs maintenance and specialized skilled work on regional airport facilities, including electrical systems, high voltage airfield lighting, plumbing, grounds, runways, hangars, taxiways and navigation aid light systems; performs airfield pavement maintenance, runway striping, and fence repairs. Conducts daily inspections of runways, ramps, fuel supply, equipment condition, navigational equipment and weather reporting equipment; ensures daily operational status of the airfield; monitors runways and surrounding surfaces for Foreign Object Debris (FOD) to ensure safety of flight operations. Performs seasonal duties as needed to maintain airport environs; performs snow removal, weed abatement, mowing, etc.; utilizes various hand and power tools in the maintenance of runways, lighting system, and facilities upkeep. Operates heavy equipment; inspects vehicles and equipment daily and performs routine maintenance and operation on airport vehicles and heavy equipment, including tractor, mower, loader, sweeper, and snow removal equipment; maintains logs and records on airport vehicles and equipment; writes specifications for equipment and vehicles; cleans up fuel spills. Performs seasonal pest and weed control; eliminates or controls weed and shrub growth applying chemicals or operating cutting and trimming equipment; monitors and controls prairie dog/rodent population. Performs general janitorial functions; cleans and maintains facilities; monitors, inventories and stocks cleaning materials and equipment. Responds to aircraft and airport emergencies, oversees airfield operations, and in the absence of higher airport authority, must be prepared to make decisions affecting airfield operations. Performs other related duties as may be required.
Considerable knowledge of the principles, methods and tools used in airport maintenance; of electrical and plumbing repairs; of hazards and safety precautions and practices; chemical applications effective in weed and pest control; safety regulations related to airfield maintenance and operations; basic FAA regulations related to air traffic management; basic personal computer operations and standard applications. Working knowledge of interpersonal and public relations practices; effective customer service methods, skill in communication both orally and in writing. Ability to perform skilled maintenance tasks in electrical and plumbing repair; to perform general maintenance work; to operate various light equipment; to understand and carry out oral and written instructions; to instruct and supervise the work of others. Ability to operate heavy equipment including loader, backhoe, dump truck, snowplow, and snow blower.
