Maintenance Worker-Welding

Primary Purpose:

Responsible for assisting on-site leadership of maintenance and repair services for assigned district facilities or specific trades area. Assist District Certified Welder to maintain the physical school plant in a condition of operating excellence so it may be fully used at all times.

Qualifications:

Education/Certification:

  • Clear and valid Texas driver’s license

Special Knowledge/Skills:

  • Specific knowledge of one craft used in building repair and maintenance including carpentry; electrical repair; heating, ventilation, and air conditioning; painting; or plumbing
  • General knowledge of other crafts used in building repair and maintenance
  • Ability to direct and supervise personnel
  • Ability to read blueprints and schematics
  • Ability to perform mathematical calculations
  • Effective organizational, communications, and interpersonal skills

Experience:

  • Four years’ experience in a craft field preferred

Major Responsibilities and Duties:

• Uses basic cutting torch and other welding tools/machines • Cut and Prep pipe and plate for welding • Must be able to work as a team and focus on delivery goals- must complete projects in the expected time • Will require working at heights on the roof to install roof coating with paint rollers and the use of fall protection • Must be able to remain standing (work) on concrete floor upwards of 10 hours per day • Must be dependable, motivated and accountable • Must be able to wear a respirator and/or dust mask and comfortable wearing hearing protection • The packaging center fabricates large metal enclosures • Ability to work at a consistent and safe manner in order to achieve production goals Qualifications for welder helper • Ability to use mathematics to calculate length, width, depth, as it relates to construction and accuracy of specs and requirements • Must be able to reasonably understand English to comprehend instructions as needed • Ability to lift, bend, stoop, push and pull • Continuous standing and/or sitting • Must be able to lift twenty pounds independently Other
  1. Respond to after-hours emergency calls as needed.
  2. Assist in the preparation of department budget.
  3. Assist in recruiting, screening, selection, training, and evaluation of maintenance employees.
  4. Maintain accurate information for payroll reporting (timecards, tardiness, and absenteeism).
  5. Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures.
  6. Working on-site is an essential part of your job function.
Safety
  1. Provide training and orientation to all skilled workers in safety procedures and proper use of tools and equipment.
  2. Follow established safety procedures and techniques to perform job duties including lifting and climbing. Operate tools and equipment according to established safety procedures.
  3. Correct unsafe conditions in work area and promptly report any conditions that are not immediately correctable to supervisor.
  4. Follow established procedures for locking, checking, and safeguarding facilities.
