Under general supervision, performs work of moderate difficulty as a maintenance worker. An employee in this position is responsible for aiding with and independently performing duties directed towards the general maintenance of the Lake County Health Department buildings and grounds with a focus on maintaining our HVACR equipment. Work involves the responsibility for the performance of specialized maintenance and repair operations in all buildings. General assignments are received from a supervisor, but maintenance personnel are expected to plan details of job and carry it to completion, without immediate supervision and in accordance with standard trade practice. Work is performed according to prescribed policies and procedures. Employees report to the Facilities Supervisor.

Scheduled Hours: 37.5 hours a week

  • Basic understanding of HVAC controls and preventative maintenance for different types of systems
  • Maintain heating, ventilating, and air conditioning in all buildings
  • Perform a schedule for preventative maintenance and inspection of plant equipment.
  • Ability to work from sketches, building plans, specifications and oral and written instructions.
  • Keep an inventory of parts, plumbing supplies, controls of equipment, etc.
  • Participates in snow/ice removal on campuses and outposts.
  • Performs general maintenance tasks such as lawn maintenance, moving furniture and room set-up, including placement of equipment and furnishings and installations of shelves.
  • Performs limited maintenance tasks in such areas as carpentry, painting and plastering.
  • Keeps vehicle in a neat and clean appearance.
  • Cleans up workspace after completion of project and ensure all tools and equipment have been returned to the proper location.
  • Operates the TMA work order system to enter and complete work requests.
  • Associate's degree or certificate of completion in HVAC and certification of refrigerant recovery
  • 1+ years of practical experience in building maintenance: heating, plumbing, electrical, ventilating and pumping equipment.
  • Possession of a valid Driver's License
