Anticipated Hiring Range: $21.64 - $22.73/hour) Positions assigned to this class perform a variety of unskilled and semi-skilled construction, maintenance and related service activities within the Parks Division of the Parks and Recreation Department. If assigned to the swimming pool facilities, may be required to obtain a Certified Pool Operator (CPO) certification. The following are intended to describe core work functions of this classification. While the level and broad nature of essentials duties may not change, specific work tasks may vary over time depending on the City's needs.
Must possess a high school diploma or GED, and two (2) years paid full time experience in construction, landscaping, facilities, parks, or public works maintenance or related field OR an equivalent combination of education and experience. Knowledge

Candidates who are selected for appointment may be required to be fingerprinted, if 18 or older; successfully complete a background investigation, employment verification and may be subject to a drug/alcohol test, medical, polygraph and/or psychological evaluation. Candidates who are appointed will be required to possess a valid drivers license to operate a vehicle in Arizona or meet the transportation needs of the position.

Physical Demands and Work Environment
Work includes walking and operation of a vehicle, landscaping equipment and various power tools. May involve climbing ladders. Requires moderate exertion and lifting carrying objects between 50 to 100 pounds, repeated bending, stooping and reaching above the head daily. Performs construction and maintenance functions requiring visual and manual dexterity and precision measurements and continuous repetitive arm, hand and eye movement. May be exposed to high voltage and hazardous chemicals. Work a varying work schedule which includes nights, weekends, holidays and extended hours during emergencies.
- Work as part of parks maintenance to plant, water and maintain landscaped areas; water, mow, weed, trim, renovate and fertilize turf; trim and prune trees and shrubs; stake trees; clear debris from walks, fields, courts and other facilities; maintain record of fertilizers and chemicals used; may apply herbicides and fungicides.
- Monitor public areas to remove safety hazards; assist with inspection and repairs of facilities and playground equipment, picnic tables, barbecues; prepare and maintain athletic fields and related facilities; ensure proper maintenance and cleanliness of facilities, restrooms and recreational areas; empty trash receptacles and transport rubbish to disposal location.
- Repair and maintain the Citys irrigation system; change and adjust heads, valves and other components; assist in irrigation system installation.
- Assist in performing basic construction, maintenance and repair work involving concrete, drainage structures, retaining walls, pipelines, masonry, grading, pavers, metal work, woodwork, fencing and electrical.
- Maintain swimming facilities; vacuum pools; clean decks, monitor water chemistry, backwash filters and other general facility upkeep.
- Open, prepare and close facilities including restrooms, swimming pool, skate park, lighted ball fields and picnic areas; inspect playgrounds, doors, windows, structures and other city park equipment and facilities; report and complete forms and logs for instances where further investigation is required.
- Notify Park rangers of any issues where the public refuses to comply with Parks rules and regulations; report all vandalism to the Park Ranger Supervisor; remove graffiti as necessary.
- May assist with dead animal removal; pest control such as bees and snakes.
- Respond to requests and inquiries from the general public.
- Support the Citys policies, goals and objectives and work with management and other staff to ethically achieve such goals and objectives; ensure compliance with safety procedures.

- Basic pool maintenance methods.
- Safety procedures; proper use of equipment, tools and personal protective equipment.
Skills
- Establishing and maintaining cooperative working relationships with coworkers and other individuals in contact during the course of work; communicating clearly and concisely; following instructions.
- Operating Park maintenance equipment including small power tools, mowers, line trimmers, blowers, tractors and small dump trucks.
- Working independently with little or no supervision.
