**Definition:**
Under general supervision, performs a variety of unskilled and
semi-skilled maintenance tasks relative to roadways, buildings,
groundskeeping, parks and/or landfill operations.
**Essential Functions:**
Essential functions, as defined under the Americans with Disabilities
Act, may include the following tasks, knowledge, skills and other
characteristics. This list of tasks is illustrative only and is not a
comprehensive listing of all functions and tasks performed by positions
in this class.
**Tasks:**
Maintains and repairs drip and sprinkler systems in County parks and
easements; assists in trenching and laying irrigation pipes; operates
lawn mower, tractor and weed trimmer; performs building maintenance and
repair of park ramadas and restrooms; prunes trees; trims shrubs; picks
up litter and debris; receives and responds to citizen questions
concerning fees, parking and rules and regulations pertinent to assigned
department; waters, seeds and fertilizes park lawns and County
easements.
May collect fees for landfill usage and inspects loads for hazardous
materials; assists with building and grounds maintenance, including
rough carpentry, plumbing, assembling and repairing furniture; performs
general labor tasks as assigned in all temperature and weather
conditions; replaces light bulbs and fluorescent tubes; hangs maps and
bulletin boards; unlocks buildings and secures/locks them at close of
work day as needed; installs and replaces road signs; assists in
construction and repairs of roadways and drainage systems.
Pours cement and repairs sidewalks; may supervise the work of inmates
performing community service; operates equipment used in maintenance and
construction of roads; washes and cleans lawn mowers, weed trimmers, and
blowers; operates equipment for cutting grass and brush adjacent to
roadways; sets up barricades for traffic control and safety purposes
during roadway construction; will be on-call as needed and must be
available to return to work if the circumstances require it.
