Job Highlights
As our L&I Maintenance Mechanic 2, youll provide limited facilities maintenance support to all field office locations, and backup support for the Warehouse Support team. Additionally, youll provide training to other Maintenance Mechanic 1s in the program and makes on the spot decisions, while at field office locations, pertaining to the support provided by the Field Support Team.
In this role, you may also fill in at any warehouse position as needed. The support provided by this position contributes directly to the quality of service provided by the Department of Labor and Industries, by getting needed materials and services to our customers in a professional and timely manner.
DutiesSome of what youll do:
- Performs cubicle installations, repairs, remodeling, and removal: panels, work surfaces, cabinets, pedestals, keyboard trays, light fixtures, and electric tables.
- Hangs fixtures: lights, pictures, signs, clocks, towel dispensers, corkboards, smartboards, and whiteboards.
- Addresses urgent safety related repairs and fixes: anchors cabinets to walls, and applies safety tape on stairs.
- Fabricates and installs shelving.
- Fabricates and installs backboards for fastening 80" monitors and large projection screens.
- Anchors small safes to concrete; less than 700 pounds.
- As the Field Lead, instructs Maintenance Mechanic 1s and Contractors as to what work to perform and how it should be accomplished at L&I FieldOffices.
- As the Field Lead, performs quality control checks on work performed by Maintenance Mechanic 1s and Contractors at L&I Field Offices.
- Perform general inventory and warehouse functions.
- Processes surplus material for appropriate disposition.
- Operate vehicles and motorized materials handling equipment assigned to the Warehouse Operations Section. The warehouse vehicles are a 1-ton cargo van, and two medium duty, 20' cargo box, trucks with gross vehicle weights {GVW) of 25,500 and 23,500 pounds.
- Occasionally travel overnight
Required:
- High school graduation and four years' experience performing general mechanical maintenance.
- One year experience in warehousing; inventory control, stock keeping, receiving, or shipping.
- Possess a valid driver's license and pass a driver's records check.
- Communication Skills/Abilities: Able to communicate effectively in English, both written and orally.
- Research and Analytical Skills/Abilities: Able to research shipping and inventory discrepancies.
- Computer skills/Abilities: Experience using Microsoft Office applications: Word, Outlook, and Excel.
- Also, experience using an automated inventory system.
- Safely operate a medium duty truck (GVW 25,500), electric fork lift (3,500 pound capacity), and electric pallet jack (3,500 pound capacity).
- Use hand and power tools with a reasonable degree of skill.
- Able to assemble and adjust modular office furniture.
- Able to perform heavy manual tasks such as moving office furniture, and lifting and moving boxes that weigh up to 60 pounds.
- Able to provide a high level of customer service; listen attentively, identify issues, and provide options.
- Able to perform basic arithmetic calculations such as adding, subtracting, multiplying and dividing
Desired:
- Experience assembling and adjusting Steelcase and Haworth modular office furniture.
- Experience using the automated inventory system ProcurePlus."
- Experience using the automated shipping system "FedEx Ground."

For this position, telework is not permitted. The assigned duty station for this position is Tumwater, Washington.
