JOB DESCRIPTION
**POSITION TITLE:** Maintenance Engineer
**DEPARTMENT:** Plant Operations
**REPORTS TO:** Manager **-** Plant Ops, Safety, Security and Emergency Prep
**POSITION SUMMARY:** Performs general and routine maintenance or repairs. Performs general clean-up. Performs security functions.

**HIPAA SECURITY COMPLIANCE:** Security Access: High Incumbent has access to restricted or confidential patient information and must comply with the terms of the MercyOne Medical Center Security Policies as it applies to their job role.
**QUALIFICATIONS:**
+ Must possess high school diploma or equivalent education/experience and good communication skills.
+ Specialized or technical training or certifications.
+ Must have 3 years of experience and be able to perform the duties of maintenance work, construction, be able to understand blueprints, electrical systems, water, boiler, chiller, air handler and sewage systems.
+ Must have mechanical aptitude and understanding of such.
+ Will be required to take on-call weekends and be able to report within 30 minutes of receiving call notification.
+ Will be required to continue his/her education on an annual basis. The supervisor will on an annual basis pre-approve a curriculum for the employee for each year.
+ Must have current and valid Iowa drivers license.
+ Must be willing to obtain, at minimum, a 2nd class Firemans license
**ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:**
+ Performs a variety of maintenance and operation duties in and around the medical center buildings and grounds including boiler, chillers, emergency generator operation, medical center and engineering space tours, plumbing and electrical repairs, water treatment analysis, troubleshooting, fire system, air handling units, DDC, refrigeration units, and other auxiliary systems.
+ Reads blueprints of piping systems and performs related maintenance.
+ Knowledge of hand and power tools and safety requirements and procedures a must.
+ Repairs and maintains machinery and mechanical equipment in accordance with diagrams, sketches, operation manuals and manufacturer specifications.
+ Performs ground maintenance, operates and maintains medical center vehicles.
+ Completes work order requisitions and preventative maintenance as assigned.
+ Observes steam-flow meters, carbon dioxide meters, pressure and draft gauges and adjust valves to attain reading within specified requirements.
+ Keeps appropriate documentation regarding testing, maintenance and monitoring.
+ Diagnose problems, replace or repair parts, detect and replace defective control modules, test and make adjustments
+ Conducts other chemical checks on water and adjusts chemicals as needed.
+ Is responsible for oiling and greasing moving mechanisms, maintaining proper water condition in boilers and cleaning boilers.
+ Observes state and local regulations such as periodically shutting down boilers and inspecting interiors for scale deposits.
+ Detects warning signals and machinery malfunctions by sound.
+ Has responsibility for the functioning of the emergency generators and their periodic testing
+ Provides quality safety and security to employees, patients, and visitors in a professional manner.
+ Enforces Safety/Security policies and procedures at all times throughout the facility.
+ Assists with helicopter landing and traffic enforcement. May assist with transfer of patient from ER to helicopter.
+ Snow removal and equipment operation.
+ Performs other related duties as assigned by Plant Operations Manager.
**EQUIPMENT USED:** Truck w/plow, Skid loader, lawn tractor, snow blower, OHM meter, hammer, chop saw, table saw, drill press, wrenches, screwdriver, drill, grinders, ladder, jacks, blue prints, wiring diagrams.
