DESCRIPTION:
Currently seeking Drydock Mechanics to work in Norfolk, VA. To be considered for this opportunity, you must have knowledge of equipment, work processes, and techniques used for this role including the ability to perform all functions of the position in conformity with applicable regulations and generally observed safety practices. The Drydock Machinist Mechanic is responsible for aplishing work in accordance with work specifications safety, with the highest quality, in a professional manner. Regular, reliable attendance on-site is an essential function of the job.
REQUIREMENTS:
Outside Machinists applying for this position must have at least 2-3years of experience.
Must be a U.S. Citizen, pass drug test, Criminal Background and E-Verify.
Personal Protective Equipment:
Hard Hat, Steel Toe Safety Boots, Safety Glasses, Gloves
Must be able to climb on and around ships and walk to other yard areas and requires extended periods of standing and walking (75%). Inspections and work may require climbing ladders, working at heights, walking on scaffolding, and observing co-workers using tools and equipment. Lifting/carrying tools and parts weighing up to 50 lbs. on frequent basis. Standing, bending, sitting, reaching, pushing, pulling, crouching, kneeling, handling, finger dexterity, feeling, eye/hand/foot coordination, seeing, hearing required. Selecting appropriate tools for jobs, as per trade classification. Works in tight, confined workspaces on board ship and is exposed to varied temperatures, wind, wet and humid conditions, fumes, odors and dust, vibrations from ship and hand tools.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Ensure tankspartments have an updated safe for hot work ticket and that requirements of the ticket have been met (ex., ventilation, lighting, safety equipment, etc.)
Ensure conditions of the tankpartment have not changed since the ticket was written (ex., fuel run back, unsafe working conditions, etc.)
Ensure that the WAF ticket is on the job site and that it is for the specific job being aplished. Must ensure that no work will be aplished without a WAF posted at the location of repairs.
Ensure that any other safety issues areplied with that relate to the specific job being aplished (ex., special staging, face shields for grinding, protective clothing for hot work-related jobs, breathing apparatus with correct cartridges, etc.)
Ensure that you are trained for qualified for the work you are assigned to do (ex., JLG, forklift, welding, brazing, special electrical/mechanical repairs, etc.)
Ensure that you and personnel working under your direction are working safely and as productively as possible, always maintaining quality control.
Ensure that the job site is left in a safe and clean condition prior to departure.
Ability toplete assignment but needs to work with close supervision.
Must have the ability to navigate a ship, the Drydock, and understandpartment designation.
Must have knowledge and understanding of technical publications and drawings.
Must be able to repair and/or install equipment using routine mechanical knowledge in conjunction with technical information and diagrams but needs to work with close supervision.
Must understand the use of measuring instruments such as micrometer, tachometer, dial indicator and caliper.
Be knowledgeable in the use of allmon shops and hand tools.
Must be able to perform duties required to prepare the drydock for a docking evolution, to include the fabrication, preparation, and assembly of the drydock blocks but needs to work with close supervision.
Must be able to perform drydocking evolution duties such as diesel engine watch and operation of other equipment as necessary but needs to work with close supervision.
Must be able to perform drydock watch duties in accordance with the drydock operational procedures and instructions but needs to work with close supervision.
Must have good oral and writtenmunication skills.
Must know what PPE to use and when.
Must have reliable transportation. Must be able to work aboard vessels, climb ladders, and work in tanks and confined spaces. Must be able to wear personal protective equipment including respirator. Must be able to work evening and weekend hours.
