IMPORTANT INFORMATION In accordance with the Merit System Rules and Regulations, an eligible list, which will be valid for a one-year period and which will be used to fill vacancies during that period, is being established for this classification. New Castle County is an Equal Opportunity Employer JOB DESCRIPTION GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES: Works as a skilled electrician in the installation and maintenance of wiring, electrical systems, and equipment; does related work as required. DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS: An employee in this class performs skilled work involving responsibility for the performance of electrical installation, maintenance, and repair operations and may monitor electrical consumption. General assignments are received from supervisors, but this employee is expected to plan details of each job and carry it to completion without immediate supervision. Supervision may be exercised over the work of other employees.EXAMPLES OF WORK: (Illustrative only)Works with all voltages;Installs and maintains fluorescent, industrial, and general lighting fixtures and connections;Wires buildings;Installs, adjusts, and maintains motors, appliances, and controls;Installs, adjusts, and maintains electrical switches, relays, controls, and pneumatic equipment;Installs electric call bells and buzzers;Installs, inspects, locates, and maintains lighting systems and wiring;Maintains telemetry equipment; Installs, maintains, and inspects power generators and associated equipment;Promotes an ongoing attitude of dedication to excellent public service and ensures that external and internal customers are provided with the highest quality of service;Operates a personal computer and other related equipment in the course of the work.REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Good knowledge of the standard practices, tools, and terminology of the electrical trade; good knowledge of electrical theory and codes; ability to read and interpret blueprints, specifications, and schematics; ability to make repairs to electrical wiring, fixtures, and equipment; excellent knowledge of electrical safety practices; ability to perform manual work. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Possession of a State of Delaware Journeyperson Electrician's license, or possession of an equivalent license in another state with the ability to obtain a State of Delaware Journeyperson Electrician's license within ninety (90) days of hire, and successful completion of a State Registered Apprenticeship Program; and possession of a trade school or high school diploma or GED.ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS: Possession of a valid Delaware class D driver's license or its equivalent. Must maintain State of Delaware Journeyperson Electrician's license. Must pass a Class III County physical examination and background check; must perceive the full range of the color spectrum.
