Summary
Maintenance Mechanic performs a variety of duties in and around the buildings of the hospital complex. Assist the tradesmen and other workmen in completing their tasks. Repairs and maintains machinery and mechanical equipment using hand tools, power tools, and/or various precision measuring and testing instruments.
Responsibilities
Maintains and repairs machinery and mechanical equipment such as pumps, engines, motors, pneumatic tubes, and electrical apparatus. Rebuilds fractional horsepower gasoline engines; uses special tools such as valve facers, reamers, cylinder hones, drills and grinders, gauges, micrometers, taps, and dies. Repairs and replaces electric motors, switches, relays, transformers. Repairs and opens defective locks, replaces worn or broken parts, fabricates new and duplicate keys, installs master lock system for an entire building center. Repairs short circuits, opens circuits, installs new circuitry, changes ballasts, receptacles, switches and lighting fixtures. Constructs forms; does cabinet work; repairs doors; makes and installs shelving; adjusts door closer, operators, and coordinators. Prepares and paints surfaces with oil, latex, and enamel paints. Repairs and maintains air conditioning equipment as needed. Performs electric and acetylene welding, brazing and silver soldering; repairs, modifies and makes new installations of pipe fittings; performs skilled plumbing work on steam and water lines, medical gases, and related plumbing equipment. Sets up and operates lathe, drill press, threading machine, grinder, and similar metalworking power tools. Maintains, repairs, and operates water heaters and related equipment. Follows established safety practices and procedures. Performs routine maintenance tasks (daily inspections, lubricate different mechanical equipment, etc.) Performs small repairs on electrical equipment (cords in connection, replacing lights, single switches, etc.) Demonstrates behaviors of service excellence and CARE values (Compassion, Accountability, Respect and Expertise). Performs all other related job duties as assigned.
Experience
Generally requires 0 to 3 years of related experience.
Education
High School diploma is strongly preferred.
Skill
Ability to analyze, organize and prioritize work accurately while meeting multiple deadlines. Ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written form. Ability to handle difficult and stressful situations with critical thinking and professional composure. Ability to understand and follow instructions. Ability to exercise sound and independent judgment. Knowledge and skill in use of job appropriate technology and software applications.
Credentials
Valid license or certification is required as needed, based on the job or specialty. Journeyman level licensure is preferred.

Working Conditions
Physical Requirements - Job functions requires extended walking or standing. Must be able to climb stairs/ladder, stoop, bend, crawl and perform repetitive motions as needed. Must be able to carry objects weighing 21 to 50 pounds. Must be able to lift , push or pull objects weighing 51 to 100 pounds with the use of appropriate devices. Function requires visual acuity to perform job related activities such as: operating machines or motor vehicles and performing mechanical or skilled trades tasks of a repetitive and non-repetitive nature.
