Highway Maintenance Worker - Small Equipment Operator (61035770)

Operates small equipment such as a standard dump truck to haul and dump materials used in maintenance of roads and right of ways. Operates small equipment such as a pipe washer to clear obstructions in driveway piles on rights of way. Operates small equipment such as a sweeper to remove dirt and debris from roadway. Flags traffic during road repairs to control flow of traffic to protect equipment, workers, and general public. Repairs potholes failures on roadway using hand tools such as shovel, pick, rake, and asphalt lute to level asphalt as needed. Uses a chainsaw to remove fallen trees from right of way and other hand tools to perform maintenance work on yard, bridges, and state right of ways. Assists in Emergency and inclement weather operations during snow and ice and other natural disaster weather operations. Removes litter, debris and dead animals from the roadway and right of ways.
There are no minimum training or experience requirements for this classification. Necessary Special Requirement: A valid motor vehicle operators license is required upon entry to the position. Requires attainment of a Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) within six (6) months of placement in the position.

The physical demands for the essential functions involves bending, stooping reaching, twisting, climbing, balancing, kneeling, pushing, pulling, and grasping. Must be able to lift up to 50lbs. Walking for extended periods, treading rough terrain, working in close proximity to motoring traffic, and in natural environmental hazards. May be required to work hours outside the normal scheduled work week; especially during inclement weather and/or other departmental related emergencies.
