Performs routine tasks independently, though work remains subject to review and inspection during and upon completion of assigned tasks. Performs all work according to the established safety standards, codes, and regulations applicable to the work. Facilitates the development of public trust and confidence in the City and its Utility.
This position is an Essential classification and is required to report to duty before, during, and after a civil emergency. The following duties are illustrative of this position. - Keeps the mission, vision and values of the City of Port St. Lucie and the Utility Systems Department at the forefront of decision making and actions; builds strategic and collaborative relationships and interacts with others in a way that builds confidence and trust; provides excellent customer service by taking action to accomplish objectives; maintains high levels of work and productivity by generating innovative solutions to work situations.
- Perform routine maintenance of City-owned property, facilities, and grounds (mowing, trimming, debris clearance, weed control, etc.)
- Performs heavy manual labor such as digging, lifting, tree and brush cutting, hauling, and picking up debris, paper, or other litter on City-owned property.
- Hauls a variety of materials to/from the job site to facilitate completion of assigned projects.
- Performs installation, repair, and maintenance of fences, gates, privacy screening, and or slats.
- Performs landscape maintenance and litter control functions.
- Prepares work area for landscaping, sod, and irrigation installations.
- Operates small machinery/hand tools, concrete and tree cutting saws, string line grass trimmers, pole saws, stump grinders, and wood-chippers.
- Performs as a helper and semi-skilled tasks in Lift Station Maintenance and I & I areas.
- Performs inspections, cleaning, and preventative maintenance on several pieces of equipment.
- Properly secures and stores all tools and equipment.
- Keeps basic records; performs computer data entry and generates work orders.
- May be required to work hours other than the standard day shift in the event of an emergency.
- May work under the direction of a Crew Leader.
- Regular and punctual attendance.
- Other duties as may be assigned.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of an acceptable equivalency diploma is required. One (1) year of related manual labor experience preferred.
A comparable amount of training, education, or experience may be substituted for the minimum qualifications.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations
Possession of a valid drivers license and maintenance of a clean driving record are required, with the ability to obtain a valid Florida drivers license within 30 days from the date of hire.
