Position Summary: The Maintenance Engineer will repair and maintain equipment and facilities in the Technology Center where CARBO’s R&D is based. The position is an integral part of the R&D group’s efforts in the development and deployment of new and existing CARBO products and technologies. The Engineer will work at CARBO’s Technology Center located in west Houston.
Key Roles / Responsibilities:
· Independently de-bug, repair, and maintain testing or processing equipment as well as verify that testing equipment reliably collects accurate and precise data.
· Support the research team as they develop new products and facilitate manufacturing and sales.
· Train researchers in maintenance, de-bugging, and simple repair of testing or processing equipment.
· Participate in ideation, design, and building or adapting of novel lab equipment to better meet processing or testing needs.
· Assist with technology transfer of built equipment & scale up manufacturing of experimental new products.
· Maintain facilities and coordinate maintenance/repairs by external entities such as HVAC companies or electricians.
· Routinely perform housekeeping, and inventory control of repair parts.
· With little direction or supervision, perform repairs, maintenance, other related duties and/or special projects as required.
· Adhere to all safety standards and practices, consistent with corporate safety policy.
Required Education, Experience, and Qualifications:
· B.S. in mechanical or electrical engineering or equivalent experience.
· “Hands on” and working knowledge of relevant mechanical and electrical technology, tools and equipment.
· Minimum of five (5) years of experience maintaining and repairing equipment (at work or elsewhere).
· Strong problem-solving ability to diagnose mechanical and electrical equipment problems for a range of processing equipment and/or simple testing equipment and to then repair the equipment.
· Ability to read and understand equipment manuals.
· Ability to program controllers to operate equipment correctly.
· General PC knowledge and troubleshooting.
· Strong verbal and written communications skills, interpersonal skills, teamwork, and attention to detail.
· Proficient with Microsoft Office tools including Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Outlook.
· Ability to write and present summaries of the status of maintenance, repair, and work on other projects.
· Dedication to completing projects according to priority and timeline.
Preferred Experience, and Qualifications:
· Experience with electrical repair of equipment.
· Experience with controllers, PLC's, and LabVIEW (or similar software) to control equipment.
· Experience with lab fluid pumps, flow meters, and Swagelok fittings.
· The ability to keep a safe, clean and organized tool room and maintain it.
