The City of Oxnard's Housing Authority is seeking a Maintenance Specialist with excellent customer service and technical skills, and has a passion for serving their community.

WHAT YOULL DO:

  • Perform drywall patching, texturing and finishing

  • Prepare interior and exterior work on buildings, which includes washing, removing paint or varnish through sanding, scraping, wire brushing, or using paint/varnish remover

  • Paint a variety of structures, including vacant housing units, office buildings, and stripping parking lots

  • Adhere to strict safety and operational protocols, including wearing personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators, and safety shoes throughout your work shift

  • Apply coating materials using brushes, rollers, spray guns, and graining devices

  • Ensure surfaces have a smooth textured and decorative appearance that meets thickness and level requirements

  • Maintain tools and equipment used in the painting process

Payroll/Classification Title: Maintenance Specialist

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS:

This classification is distinguished from the Maintenance Technician, Senior in that it performs both skilled maintenance and skilled repair work and provides troubleshooting of equipment issues.

SUPERVISION EXERCISED / SUPERVISION RECEIVED:

Receives general supervision on routine items which are performed according to established standards and procedures and receives specific work instruction regarding non-routine matters and deadlines.

(This class specification represents only the core areas of responsibilities; specific position assignments will vary depending on the needs of the Department.)

  • Performs skilled maintenance and repair work in assigned trade and/or area; plans, prioritizes and schedules activities to complete repairs and maintenance work in efficient and timely manner; selects proper tools and equipment for assignment; monitors work site safety; performs work following established safety policies and procedures and applicable codes and regulations.

  • Performs maintenance inspections; troubleshoots equipment, maintenance and/or system issues; identifies repair needs; reviews repair versus replacement costs and makes recommendations; performs required repairs or works with outside contractors for project completion.

  • Organizes and maintains assigned equipment and tools; inspects, cleans and performs preventative maintenance to ensure operability and reliability of equipment and tools.

  • Review equipment and materials required for daily maintenance and work projects; initiates request for or purchases approved materials and supplies.

  • Prepares and/or maintains activity records, logs, work orders, material requests, reports and/or technical documentation for equipment or building systems.

  • Performs other duties of a similar nature and level as assigned.

POSITION SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES MIGHT INCLUDE:

Positions assigned to public housing maintenance may be responsible for:

Performing preventative maintenance of public housing and administrative buildings;

Inspecting and repairing heating, air-conditioning, electrical, phone, security, elevator, water supply and boiler systems;

Performing carpentry, painting, plumbing, tiling, masonry and home appliance repair;

Assisting trade contractors with site improvement projects.

The following are the minimum qualifications necessary for entry into the classification:

EDUCATION:

  • High School Diploma or GED

EXPERIENCE:

  • Four (4) years of equipment operation/driving experience or formal trades experience in one or more areas related to assignment

LICENSING/CERTIFICATIONS:

  • Valid California Class C Drivers License with a satisfactory driving record may be required for some positions.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must be able to effectively communicate in English, both orally and in writing

NOTE: For most positions, the City of Oxnard relies on office automation (Microsoft Office/Google) and web-based enabled tools, therefore candidates must be proficient and comfortable with computer use to perform functions associated with on-going work.

Regular and reliable attendance, effective communication skills, and development of effective working relationships are requirements of all positions.

Employees are required to participate in the City's direct deposit plan and are paid on a bi-weekly basis.
