The Madison Metropolitan School District is the second largest school district in Wisconsin. The district serves a beautifully diverse population of more than 27,000 students. Purpose of the Position

Under general supervision, is responsible for all facets of facilities maintenance. The duties listed below aremonly performed. This list is not exclusive or all-inclusive. Other duties may be required toplete as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibilities

Directs the work of the Custodial Worker I, II, and III occasionally

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Perform all the duties of a Custodial Worker I, II, and III as well as the Building Custodian I, II, and III

Set a standard of performance by modeling excellent work aligned to timely pre-determined District standards

Provide training to district custodial staff

Dress appropriately per Employee Handbook section 3.29, with Photo I.D. visible and ensuring custodial staff meets this standard

Repair, maintain, and install building equipment

Performs, plans, and coordinates outdoor duties including, but not limited to, trash pick-up, landscaping, mowing, string trimming, snow removal, ice removal, salting and sanding, and other seasonal maintenance.

Maintain and operate lawn tractors, snowblowers, and various mechanical equipment to maintain facilities and grounds.

Operate, repair, and maintain heating, ventilating and air conditioning systems, includingpressors, electrical (e.g., ballasts, switches, outlets) and mechanical controls, filters, motors, pumps, coils, and piping systems

Perform basic carpentry, plumbing tasks, and/or assisting trades workers, district technicians and/or contractors with installation, maintenance, and repair of various buildingponents.

Maintain boilers and log sheets, and performing safety tests

Operate, repair, and maintainponents of high school swimming pools, including chlorination, filtration, ventilation, and mechanical circulation systems

Open the building, start equipment, and perform a building security check

Assist in the preparation of facilities to amodate building permits

Review, enter, and sign off tasks forpletion (e.g., work orders, preventative maintenance) in EAM as required

Perform other related duties including grounds, custodial cleaning tasks, and laundry

Respond timely to allmunication received (e.g., email, voice messages)

Carry and respond to any assigned district-providedmunication devices (e.g., phones, radio)

May require occasional shift and work location changes

Perform a variety of related duties as assigned

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

Ability tomunicate effectively with students, staff, parents, and themunity orally and in writing

Ability to clearlymunicate in English for emergency response situations

Ability to read, follow directions, and maintain accurate records

Knowledge of building maintenance including heating, ventilation, air conditioning, pneumatic controls, electrical, plumbing, swimming pools, and grounds

Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety procedures

Knowledge ofputer applications including Gmail, Google Docs, Kronos, Munis, Active.net, and others

Knowledge of methods, practices, tools, and materials used in the maintenance & repair of building systems operations, maintenance, repairs, and custodial work

Skill and demonstrated success in managing multiple priorities in a timely manner

Skill in planning, prioritizing, and executing the work activities of the custodial team

Minimum Qualifications

Demonstrated success or prior experience in covering for Building Custodian

Possess and maintain a valid driver's license and reliable means of transportation

Experience working cross-culturally and/ormitment to work toward one's own culturalpetence (i.e., valuing difference/diversity, recognizing personal limitations in one's skills and expertise, and having the desire to learn in these areas)

Desired Qualifications

Experience working as a Custodial Worker I, II, or III within MMSD

Physical Requirements:

This job is physically demanding - medium to heavy work.

T is constant standing, walking, and moving depending on day to day tasks. T will be frequent pushing and pulling of loads up to 70+ pounds. T is frequent bending, stooping, and utilizing proper lifting techniques loads up to 50+ pounds. T is frequent sitting, driving, squatting, crouching, ladder and stair climbing, able to handle 10 ft heights, crawling, reaching, kneeling, lifting up to 75 pounds, and repetitive movements with both hands. Verbal and auditorymunication is frequently used. Near and far vision acuity, depth perception, amodation, field of vision, and feeling are frequently utilized.

Ability to work under generally safe andfortable conditions w exposure to environmental factors is minimal and poses little to no risk of injury.

Manual dexterity is necessary forpleting general tasks while operating office equipment.

This position may require being stationary for extended periods of time.

Working Conditions:

Work requires travel to different locations within the district and to off-site meetings.

Position requires working evenings, nights, and some weekends.

School-based positions are required to be in-person unless otherwise directed by the building principal.

Environmental Adaptability:

Ability to work under generally safe andfortable conditions w exposure to environmental factors is minimal and poses little to no risk of injury.

Ability to perform work in a variety of indoor and outdoor environments throughout the year, including in inclement weather, spaces without air conditioning, and areas w temperatures may be ufortable or fluctuate rapidly.
