About the Role
Are you someone who enjoys working with your hands, operating equipment, and taking pride in keeping your community running smoothly?
The City of Sterling is looking for a Maintenance Worker I to join our hardworking Streets and Sanitation team. In this role, you'll help maintain the roads, parks, public facilities, and other infrastructure that make our city safe and enjoyable for residents and visitors alike.
This is a great opportunity to start a stable career with full training providedincluding help earning your Commercial Driver's License (CDL) and Flagger Certification.
What You'll Do
Operate and maintain a variety of equipment: dump trucks, loaders, backhoes, snowplows, mowers, and more.
Perform hands-on maintenance and minor repairs on city streets, sidewalks, parks, buildings, and public spaces.
Respond to weather events and emergencies (e.g., snow removal, debris clearing).
Perform daily safety inspections of vehicles and tools.
Assist other departments and divisions as neededno two days are the same!

Qualifications
What We're Looking For
A team player with a strong work ethic and a desire to serve the community.
Ability to safely lift up to 50 lbs, use hand/power tools, and work in outdoor conditions year-round.
Willingness to learn and growno previous CDL required; we'll help you get there!
Minimum Requirements:
High school diploma or GED
Valid driver's license
Ability to obtain a CDL permit within 4 months of hire (City helps with process)
Must obtain Flagger Certification within one year of hire
Bonus
You'll be part of the City's emergency response teamhelping keep Sterling safe and operational during storms and emergencies. This position may require working nights, weekends, or holidays when needed (with overtime pay!).
