Facility Maintenance Worker II - Coliseum

Bring your skills to the team that keeps Hampton's premier event spaces running smoothly! We're looking for a reliable, hands-on Facilities Maintenance Worker II to prepare and maintain the Hampton Coliseum, American Theatre, Charles H. Taylor Art Center, and Hampton Aquaplex for world-class events.

The purpose of the class is to prepare the Hampton Coliseum, the American Theatre, the Charles H. Taylor Art Center, and the Hampton Aquaplex for events and to perform general maintenance and housekeeping duties. The class works under close supervision according to set procedures.

Typical task:

  • Set up stages, chairs, tables, risers, and other event-related equipment.
  • Operate tools and vehicles, including forklifts, scrubbers, and sweepers.
  • Lead housekeeping and support crews during events.
  • Perform general maintenance and light repairs (plumbing, electrical, carpentry, painting).
  • Keep indoor and outdoor areas clean and safe before, during, and after events.
  • Help ensure venue security with routine checks.

Minimum Requirements:

  • High school graduation or successful completion of GED.
  • One (1) year of full-time equivalent experience in building maintenance or a closely related experience.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license and must have and maintain a satisfactory driver's record based on the City of Hampton's criteria.
  • Must possess a Virginia Commercial Driver's License (CDL) Class B or must obtain the CDL Class B within 180 days of employment.
  • This position is safety sensitive and is subject to testing for alcohol and controlled substances in accordance with the City's current substance abuse policy.
  • Must successfully pass a background check prior to any offer of employment or promotion.

Additional Requirements:

  • May require working beyond a standard 40-hour work week to include evenings and weekends.
  • The incumbent may be considered "essential personnel" during City emergency situations or at the direction of the City Manager, which may include long hours and unusual schedules.
