Job Description / Essential Elements:
Install general plumbing systems and repair existing systems; install, maintain, and repair various types of heating units and systems; repair of replace valves, gaskets, tubing, and pipes; cut, bind fuse, and join tubing and pipes; test systems by pressure tests; test joints and install pipe for refrigeration or air conditioning systems. Install water piping; sewer mains and laterals; repair and replace pipes; valves, fittings, ball-cocks, and other fixtures. Cut and thread pipe; pack faucets; repair water supply, sewage and drainage pipes; clean out drains and remove obstructions from water and sewer systems. Install, maintain, and repair washers, dryers, water heaters, and garbage disposals; clean and adjust burners on stoves. Work from verbal instructions, blueprints, sketches, and work orders; care for plumbing tools and equipment; requisition needed supplies. Dig ditches and trenches, shoring as necessary. Assist in other maintenance areas by performing skilled, semi-skilled, and unskilled duties. Plan and lay out assigned tasks; keep time, labor, and material records; prepare cost estimates. May direct the work of helpers. Maintain gas, oil, and water in assigned vehicles. Complete work orders, request forms, and other necessary paperwork as needed. **Knowledge of: Standard practices of the plumbing trade, the methods, materials and equipment used in plumbing installation, alterations and repair work. Plumbing ordinances and regulations contained in applicable building codes. Hand and machine tools used in the plumbing trade. Appropriate safety precautions and procedures. **Ability to: Use plumbing tools and equipment skillfully. Plan and lay out plumbing work. Work from sketches, diagrams, blueprints, plans, and specifications. Operate a truck and observe legal and safe driving practices. Perform or learn to perform a wide range of general maintenance and repair work. Understand and carry out oral and written documents. Work cooperatively with those contacted in the course of work. Direct the work of helpers. Work safely.
Requirements / Qualifications
The Baldwin Park Unified School District is recruiting for a General Maintenance Plumber. Under general supervision, to perform skilled plumbing work in the repair, installation, and
maintenance of plumbing fixtures, systems, lines, appliances, and equipment and to do related work as may be required.

The selection process tentatively consists of the District application review, and interviews. The Human Resources Department will contact all applicants once the selection process has been finalized. Permanent employees will be given priority consideration.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Education and Experience:
Two (2) years of journeyman-level plumbing experience. Completion of an approved technical or trade course in plumbing may be substituted for one (1) year of the required experience.
REQUIRED LICENSES AND/OR CERTIFICATES
Possession of a valid and appropriate California Driver's License; may be required to hold a Certificate of Competency to test backflow prevention devices; have an acceptable driving record and qualify for insurability.
Preference given to applicants who hold the certificate.
