Job Overview:

Reporting to the Manufacturing Manager, the Maintenance Supervisor provides direct and indirect supervision to all shifts of the Maintenance Department. The supervisor will assign work, manage goals, coordinate improvements and coach and lead people to achieve effective performance and teamwork. This position is responsible for maintaining a positive, respectful culture; ensuring high expectations of employee safety and product quality are met, as well as supporting and promoting the Marvin mission, vision, values and goals.

Leadership and Supervision

  • Support the Marvin mission, vision, company values, strategic plan, goals, and management decisions.
  • Be visible, available, and approachable. Provide leadership and physical presence throughout the department to achieve objectives. Treat employees with respect and consideration.
  • Effectively communicate and consistently administer work rules, company policies and applicable laws.
  • Manage employee and team performance. Coach and counsel employees and maintain a high level of morale within the department. Motivate workforce to support and help achieve department goals and objectives.
  • Be fair and consistent with expectations and discipline. Manage employee conflict appropriately.
  • Provide direction and support to Leads. Develop and mentor bench strength in department.
  • Educate, monitor and enforce all safety rules, policies, and activities. Collaborate with department management, HR and safety to manage risk and to decrease incidents and work related injuries.
  • Regularly hold effective departmental meetings that provide direction and improve communication.
  • Maintain professional conduct at all times. Respect employee confidentiality.
  • Provide welcoming spirit for all new employees. Adequately train and cross-train all employees.

Operations Management

  • Responsible for providing quality service that meets or exceeds internal and external customer expectations.
  • Critically monitor and review departmental performance, making adjustments or improvements as needed. Identify problems in departmental process and resolves issues.
  • Develop and execute plans accordingly. Communicate any issues between shifts.
  • Ensure maintenance resources including materials, and tools and equipment are available as needed to maintain production schedules and attain goals.
  • Maintain on-time project schedule and supervise projects as assigned.
  • Monitor on a daily basis, the quality aspects of work completed. Maintain a high regard for consistent workmanship and customer service.
  • Maintain building infrastructure and act as a liaison between Marvin and outside support for all building systems and utilities.
  • Develop short and long term plans to provide continuous improvement in safety, production, quality and associate engagement.
  • Appropriately staff department based on production support needs and ongoing projects. Responsible for schedule to include work assignments, rotations, breaks and overtime assignments.
  • Lead and support 5S and Safety initiatives.

Administrative Duties

  • Responsible for timely and accurate completion of time and attendance documentation and approval, including related disciplinary action.
  • Complete and submit safety related reports in a timely manner with supporting documentation for correction, such as work orders.
  • Assign and monitor work order progress and follow up as needed.
  • Ensure maintenance management system is used as intended.
  • Administer employee evaluations on or before review date.
  • Follow up on corrective actions requests.
  • Provide input as changes occur and support updates to operation manuals, job descriptions, training checklists, equipment operations, cleaning procedures, JHAs, SWPs, etc.
  • Review and make decisions on IDEAS submissions in a timely manner.
  • Clean and maintain adequate supply of forms and supplies in storage area on information boards.

Team Building and Contribution

  • Provide an atmosphere conducive to the effective use of teamwork to achieve objectives, both within the department and plant wide.
  • Ensure teamwork within the leadership team.
  • Communicate effectively with all levels and areas of the organization.
  • Actively participate in meetings and follow up with any assigned action items.
  • Recommend and support changes needed to rules, policies, and procedures

Personal and Professional Development

  • Work with manager to determine areas within ones personal ability, skills or knowledge that need improvement and develop a plan to reach a desired goal.
  • Attend and actively participate in supervisory training events and apply this information on the job.
  • Actively participate on projects to build bench strength and leadership skills.
You're a good fit if you have (or if you can):
  • At least three years maintenance related experience, with prior supervisory experience preferred.
  • High school education or equivalent required. Post-secondary degree or training in a related field is preferred.
  • Basic computer skills, including Microsoft Office. Prior use of maintenance software and ICIM knowledge preferred.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents, such as policies, equipment instructions, safety guidelines or work procedures. Ability to read building blueprints and equipment schematics, equipment user and maintenance manuals, ability to decipher parts prints and exploded view diagrams for maintenance and parts ordering. Must be able to write routine reports or correspondence. Ability to speak one-on-one to others as well as in a small group setting on a frequent basis and larger groups on an occasional basis.
  • Strong organizational skills, time management skills and the ability to follow through on projects and tasks.
  • Ability to multi-task and set priorities within the department, solve problems in a diverse workforce and mentor and train others effectively.
  • While performing the essential duties of this job, the Maintenance Supervisor is frequently required to stand on a concrete floor for long periods of time and walk long distances. The Maintenance Supervisor is occasionally required to sit, reach with arms, bend, crawl, kneel and climb. Must be able to climb ladder and work at heights of up to 50 feet. The Team Leader must occasionally lift up to 75 pounds and frequently lift up to 20 pounds.
