Description
Under general supervision the Street Maintenance Worker performs a variety of skilled tasks in the construction and maintenance of city streets, trails, parking structures, ROW maintenance, concrete structures, storm water features and other areas as assigned.
Posted range is the starting salary. Pay rate offered is based on experience.
Examples of Duties
- Assists a field crew in maintenance and construction of streets, trails, structures, alleys and other areas as assigned.
- Performs street maintenance duties including asphalt and concrete repair and mowing
- Operates vehicles and equipment including dump trucks backhoes, and loaders as well as assorted hand and pneumatic tools, for a variety of construction and maintenance operations.
- Maintains records and prepares reports of work performed and materials used.
- Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with employees, the public, contractors and others.
- Sets up traffic safety devices and barricades as necessary.
- Maintains storm drains, catch basin, and storm drain pipes.
- Performs emergency street, sewer, storm drain, or other public service maintenance work as required.
- Performs routine preventative maintenance on equipment as assigned.
Experience and Training
Graduation from high school or GED equivalent.
A minimum of six (6) months of general maintenance or general labor experience is required.
Street maintenance work experience preferred.
Certificates and Licenses Required
- Valid Class A CDL or the ability to obtain within 6 months of hire and have a driving record that meets current city insurance liability requirements.
- Must possess Work Zone Certification, Flagger Certification, Skid Steer Certification, Backhoe Certification, or be able to obtain certifications within one (1) year of employment.
- Required to be on departmental on-call rotation.
This position may require you to have or acquire a commercial driver's license (CDL). Federal law requires all CDL holders to register with the USDOT Clearinghouse before operating a commercial vehicle. You will be required to enroll in the clearinghouse and sign a consent form allowing the City to run your name through the clearinghouse as a condition of employment.
