Position Details:

The Opportunity

In this Maintenance Mechanic position, you will perform a variety of skilled work in the operation, maintenance, repair, remodeling and construction of buildings, grounds, machinery, mechanical facilities and equipment. You will inspect, provide preventative maintenance, repairs and alterations to support the students, faculty and staff of Washington State University (WSU) Vancouver.

This position requires a good working knowledge of several related skill fields such as electrical, plumbing, HVAC, and machinist work. You will inspect, operate, test, troubleshoot, and maintain physical facilities requiring skilled mechanical and trades work. This involves use of all types of electronic/mechanical test equipment, creative troubleshooting techniques and methods, personal computers, and programming software.

You may serve as a subject matter expert with coworkers or representing the university to vendors serving the university. You may be eligible for standby pay, which is additional pay for employees required to be immediately available for duty in accordance with the Washington Office of Financial Management (OFM) and WAC 357-28-205.

Percentage Breakdown of Job Functions:

60% Routine Corrective and Preventative Maintenance Assurance

15% Work Order Management

10% Maintenance Inventory: Corrective and Preventative Maintenance Parts and Equipment

10% Special Project Support

5% Other duties as assigned.

Additional Information:

This is a full-time (100% FTE), permanent position. This position is overtime eligible.

This position works on-site on the WSU Vancouver campus.

Monthly Salary: $5,011 to $5,812 | Range 48G, Steps G to M | Successful candidates typically begin at the beginning of the salary range and receive scheduled salary increment increases in accordance with WAC 357-28 .

In accordance with RCW 49.58.110, the above salary reflects the full salary range for this position. Individual placement within the range is based on the candidates current experience, education, skills, and abilities related to the position.

Required Qualifications

  • High school graduation and four years of general work experience in building and equipment maintenance, construction or repair work or completion of a recognized apprenticeship in a skilled mechanic trade; OR equivalent education/experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Demonstrated work experience in a commercial/industrial setting.

  • Journey level license or certifications in trades such as HVAC, electrical, refrigeration, plumbing, mechanical, general contractor or other trades.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office suite.
