Field Maintenance Worker - Sanitation

Primary Purpose:

Under general supervision, performs collection, loading, and disposal of refuse and garbage.

Qualifications:

Education/Certification/Experience:

Valid Texas Driver's License with an acceptable driving record.

1 year of light equipment operation

High School Diploma/GED

Special Knowledge/Skills:

Ability to understand and follow detailed written or verbal instructions

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.

Ability to communicate effectively with others

Major Responsibilities and Duties:

• Loads refuse by hand and shares loading responsibilities with co-workers.

• Sets up barricades when required to protect employees and the general public

• Communicate effectively with co-workers, drivers, and general public.

• Records all service calls and daily duties when required.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

None.

Tools/Equipment Used: Common hand tools, ladders, hard hats, gloves

Posture: Frequent standing, kneeling/squatting, bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, and twisting

Motion: Frequent walking, climbing; grasping/squeezing, wrist flexion/extension, crawling

Lifting: Heavy lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling (+ 80 pounds) frequently

Environment: Work outside or inside, on slippery or uneven walking surfaces; frequent exposure to extreme hot and cold temperatures, dust, dirt, sewage, water. toxic chemicals and materials, noise, and vibration; work around moving objects or vehicles; insects, rodents, may work alone, regular exposure to high heat, fast moving mechanical parts

Mental Demands: Maintain emotional control under stress, occasional prolonged or irregular hours
