EXAMINATION IS ANNOUNCED TO ESTABLISH AN EMPLOYMENT LIST TO FILL ONE (1) CURRENT EAST JEFFERSON VACANCY IN THE DEPARTMENT OF DRAINAGE.
This employment list will also be used for future EAST AND WEST Jefferson vacancies in this Department as they occur.The purpose of this position is to function as foreman for work crews engaged in the maintenance of the Parish's subsurface storm drainage system, i.e., washing, cleaning and flushing drain lines. Functions as foreman for work crews engaged in the construction and repair of the Parish's subsurface storm drainage system, i.e., culverts, drainage lines, catch basins, manholes, drop inlets, spillways, fence installations. Employee investigates and tests for leaks in the drainage culvert system as well as investigates and handles complaints concerning drainage culvert repairs. Oversees the excavation, bracing and shoring of trenches, and the use of all equipment required to perform the work. Receives work orders and coordinates crews, equipment and materials required per job site; supervises and delegates tasks to unskilled, semi-skilled, and skilled field crews engaged in the maintenance of storm drainage and canal systems. Drives to and from various locations to perform job duties. This position is also an essential, emergency duty status worker and may not be relieved of duty when the Parish President or his designee recommends a voluntary or mandatory evacuation of Jefferson Parish. Position requires driving of a Parish vehicle necessitating a class D license, thus possession of a valid Class D Driver's license and acceptable driving record will be given preference.Meets one of the following:
I. Current employment with Jefferson Parish and permanent civil service status in a classification responsible for field maintenance work involving drainage systems, to include the construction, maintenance, or repair of drainage canals, ditches, and embankments.
OR
II. Substantial (approx. two years), full-time, paid work experience performing field maintenance work involving drainage systems, as described in Option I.(ENTRANCE AND PROMOTIONAL)

The written test is designed to measure: abilities to make necessary arithmetic calculations, to prepare work records and reports, and to read and understand instructions; and knowledge of acceptable supervisory and employee relations procedures and practices.
