Michigan Sugar Company has an immediate, full-time opportunity for a Welder, located at the Caro Factory, 819 Peninsular St., Caro, MI 48723.

JOB SUMMARY

Responsible for the day-to-day welding functions and mechanical issues within the Michigan Sugar Company Agricultural Maintenance Department by pushing for continuous improvement within your area of responsibility to become more efficient with less down time while continuing to produce a quality product. To support the shift-to-shift department operations as needed. Applicant must be capable of performing a variety of welding functions and be familiar with and capable of using various types of welding and cutting equipment.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

Responsible for all welding repairs of the pilers, ventilation equipment, and any other related agricultural equipment.

Must look for ways to improve productivity from a welding and fabrication perspective, reduce breakdowns, and decrease downtime.

Responsible for overseeing repairs performed by contractors to aid and assist management by reporting progress and deficiencies as needed.

Must be able to work safely with tools - including hand tools, wrenches, torches, grinders, drills, pneumatic tools, impact wrenches, and heavy lifting equipment such as jacks, porta powers, chain falls, and come-a-longs.

Ensures that working conditions are always safe and supports all related safety policies, procedures, and guidelines.

Must have strong skills with the use of hand and power tools employed in all types of welding, cutting, fabrication and repair work.

Attend and participate in special training and familiarization workshops dealing with updates or changes in piling ground equipment operations, repairs, and maintenance.

Maintains and an accurate parts inventory at all times for all pieces of welding and fabrication equipment.

Help maintain compliance with good manufacturing practices and safety standards.

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS

Possess a High School Diploma or equivalent.

Required to pass MSC approved Welding Certification Test at Delta College.

Will be required to maintain welding certification.

Minimum of 5 years of welding and fabrication experience.

Chauffeur License or ability to obtain one.

KEY COMPETENCIES

Must effectively communicate concerns related to preventative maintenance, mechanical breakdowns, and any other concerns to management and other maintenance employees as needed.

Must effectively communicate with other crew members, foreman, or supervision during shift changes as it pertains to downtime items, repairs, updates, lessons learned, anytime the following shift could potentially be impacted when necessary.

Must have the ability to support equipment management processes to ensure piler equipment efficiencies, improve key performance indicators and to eliminate down time as needed.

Flexibility to travel to all other job sites to perform required maintenance on equipment as needed.
