The purpose of this position is to perform assigned skilled construction work to maintain and repair public infrastructure including roadways, storm and sanitary sewer systems, and support snow and ice removal operations.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The following duties are normal for this position. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned. Training will be provided for proficiency.
- Properly inspect, maintain, load and unload, drive and/or operate construction vehicles and equipment including hand and power tools, track excavator, backhoes, front-end loaders, high lifts, light tractors, street sweepers, dump trucks, street painting machines, snowplows, jack hammers, mixers, spreaders, etc., used during Public Works maintenance / repair activities and snow removal operations.
- Performs routine maintenance and repairs to install / replace sign posts and street signs; Repair / replace cracked or damaged sections of asphalt / concrete roads and sidewalks.
- Knowledgeable of appropriate safety standards, procedures and equipment.
- Mandatory attendance and participation in: rotating on-call schedule, assigned overtime, civil emergencies, severe weather events including flooding and snow removal operations, special events, and call-outs.
- Respond to public inquiries and complaints.
- Required to perform duties of Street Maintenance/Sewer Maintenance/Water Distribution Worker.

Labor & Lifting
Lift and carry materials weighing 100+ lbs.; assist with heavier loads as needed.
Transport objects 100+ lbs, over distance up to 100 feet.
Operate heavy hand tools such as jackhammers, chipping hammers, and sledgehammers.
Perform physically demanding tasks (e.g., digging, raking, shoveling) for extended periods.
Sustain continuous manual labor for durations of 2 to 4 hours between break(s).
Work is performed in varying field conditions and may require repetitive motion, exertion, and endurance.

Minimum Training and Experience Required to Perform Essential Job Functions
- High school diploma or GED equivalent.
- Two years' experience related to general construction, maintenance and repair, and equipment operation, or any equivalent combination of education and experience that provides equivalent knowledge, skills, and abilities.
- Any equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Valid Missouri driver's license required.
- Valid Class A Commercial Driver's License with air brakes and tanker endorsements required as a condition of employment and continued employment.
