Conveyor Mechanic Level 2 Facilities Manager Title of Position Title of Supervisor Maintenance Fort Mill Distribution Center Department Location PRIMARY OBJECTIVE OF POSITION: To perform all aspects of conveyor maintenance, including preventative maintenance, shop and parts inventories, and the adherence to all OSHA safety regulations. MAJOR AREAS OF ACCOUNTABILITY:
- Observes mechanical devices in operation and listens to their sounds to locate causes of trouble.
- Dismantles devices to gain access to and remove defective parts.
- Examines form and texture of parts to detect imperfections.
- Inspects used parts to determine changes in dimensional requirements.
- Adjusts functional parts of devices and control instruments.
- Repairs or replaces defective parts. Installs special functional and structural parts in devices.
- Lubricates and cleans parts.
- Starts devices to test their performance.
- Sets up and operates lathe, drill press, grinder, band saw, milling machine, welder, and other metalworking tools to make and repair parts.
- Movement/positioning/replacement of heavy weight equipment with the aid of mechanical means such as forklifts, pry bars, and chain falls.
- Position requires pushing toolbox to work areas.
- Requires carrying, lifting, and transporting of parts to and from work location and maintenance shop by hand or mechanical means.
- Job requires the following personal protective equipment: cut resistant gloves and sleeves, heat resistant gloves and sleeves, safety glasses, goggles, face shield, ear plugs, and steel toed shoes.
- Position requires the use of hand tools such as wrenches, hammers, punches, screw drivers, pliers, and pipe wrenches on a continuous basis to perform normal duties. Tasks range from fine adjustments that require dexterity for adjustments to using both hands to apply force when pushing or pulling.
- Performs plant startup tasks, energizing all equipment and ensuring operation.
- Installs power supply wiring and conduit for newly installed machines and equipment such as conveyors and programmable controllers.
- Connects power supply wires to machines and equipment and connects cables and wires between machines and equipment.
- Assists in or performs weekly churn test on the fire sprinkler system; completes regular testing, maintenance, and upkeep of all fire exit doors, fire door alarms, burglar alarm and exit maps.
- Replaces faulty electrical components on conveyors such as relays, switches, and motors, and positions sensing devices.
- Diagnoses and repairs or replaces faulty electrical components.
- Replaces electric motor bearings and rewires motors.
- Diagnoses and replaces faulty mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic components of machines and equipment.
- Cleans work area, tools, and equipment.
- Utilizes computer for work order entry and completion status.
- Installs power supply wiring and conduit for newly installed machines and equipment such as conveyors and programmable controllers.
- Connects power supply wires to machines and equipment and connects cables and wires between machines and equipment.
- Diagnoses malfunctioning apparatus such as motors, and lighting fixtures and replaces damaged or broken wire and cables.
- Tests malfunctioning machinery and discusses malfunction with maintenance manager.
- Replaces faulty electrical components on machine such as relays, switches, motors, positions sensing devices, AC/DC Drives and PLC components.
- Replaces electric motor bearings, brushes and rewire motors for installation.
- Diagnoses and replaces faulty mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic components of machines and equipment as necessary .
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
- Minimum of three years conveyor maintenance experience
- Experience in general machine shop practice, welding, maintenance troubleshooting, electrical systems.
- Hydraulic systems, pneumatic systems. Able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
- Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
- Ability to write simple correspondence.
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
- Ability to communicate effectively.
- Ability to read a tape measure, micrometer, dial indicators.
- Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
- Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
- Ability to maintain a positive attitude and work in a manner that promotes a safe working environment
- Ability to accurately read and match numbers
- Ability to stand and walk throughout the facility during required length of the shift.
- Frequently required bend, stoop, push and pull objects.
- Regularly required to stand, walk, and reach with hands and arms.
- Specific vision abilities include depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
- Ability to talk and hear.
- Ability to lift up to 70-100 pounds on a continuous basis.
- Ability to work at heights up to 35 feet. Employee must regularly climb portable and fixed ladders and stairs and perform tasks at elevations and on elevated platforms .
- Ability to operate forklift, motorized pallet jack or other power equipment as necessary.
- Ability to work with battery acids, paints, lubricants, solvents and cleaners.
- Protective hand wear required (gloves issued for individual assignment)
- Protective clothing in designated areas
- All OSHA required welding protection
