The Nevada Department of Transportation is recruiting for a Highway Maintenance Supervisor 1. This position is located within District 1, Beatty, on Crew 123. Incumbents function as first-line supervisors who train, supervise, and evaluate the performance of assigned staff; assign and review work; and initiate disciplinary action. Incumbents manage maintenance crews responsible for conducting summer betterment projects and winter incident management, road maintenance, preservation, flood control and cleanup, snow removal, and winter anti-icing/de-icing as policy requires; plan, coordinate, monitor, and inspect routine maintenance activities and major betterment projects; coordinate equipment, material, and resource needs; monitor work progress and productivity of maintenance crews including preparing, reviewing, and evaluating reports to track productivity, costs, resources, and equipment usage. The incumbent will also work with department staff to identify upcoming betterment needs; participate in betterment reviews; and assist in preparing budget estimates and project planning charts for upcoming maintenance seasons. This position will assist district leadership with personnel issues and provide training, support, and guidance in employee evaluations and disciplinary actions. The incumbent will also assist maintenance personnel by responding to emergency situations from traffic control for all incidents, both natural and manmade, to removing debris in the travel lanes, or similar unplanned events that require an immediate response to protect the public. When these events occur, maintenance personnel are called out 24 hours a day in order to promptly alleviate, or at least warn the driving public of, the condition. Review potential projects scope through preliminary design study as requested; review design plans at 30%, 60%, and 90% completion for maintenance issues; participate in preconstruction meetings to address possible deficiencies in design and construction; and review completed projects to ensure compliance with contract and quality of work.

Work ing knowledge of : purchasing requirements and contracting limitations; a wide variety of manuals, policies, rules and regulations; road and weather information for effective winter roadway maintenance operations; incident command system protocol; emergency operation center responsibilities.
Ability to: effectively monitor a vegetation management contract and an invasive species control program; plan, schedule, prioritize and participate in both routine and complex highway maintenance activities; supervise a crew of skilled and semi-skilled workers including performance evaluations, writing employee development reports, and initiating disciplinary actions; document work activities, equipment and material use, status of stockpiles and inventories, project summaries and existing highway deficiencies; effectively communicate with subordinate personnel, supervisors, law enforcement officers, and a variety of regulatory agencies; read and interpret blueprints, schematic drawings, material safety data sheets, standard plans, and proposed construction and encroachment projects; inspect projects for compliance with plans and specifications; calculate application ratios, stockpile and material needs and usage; measure distance, area and volume; schedule equipment maintenance and repairs; estimate quantities of materials for projects; develop project scopes, methods of construction and costs for district input into the annual work program; resolve worksite conflict in a competent and professional manner; stay abreast of new regulations.
