TITLE: Journeyman Electrician

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High school graduate, with post-secondary or formal apprenticeship training
  • Alaska certificate of Fitness for Electrician or ability to acquire certificate within one (1) year of hiring.
  • Demonstrated aptitude or competence for assigned responsibilities.
  • Valid Alaska driver's license.
  • Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.

REPORTS TO: Director of Property Services

JOB GOAL: To help maintain the physical school plant in a condition of operating excellence so that full educational use of it may be always made.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

  • Assumes primary responsibility for the safe condition of the electrical systems in the facilities owned or operated by the District.
  • This includes lighting fixtures, wiring, electrical apparatus, and the electrical parts of heating, ventilation, and refrigeration equipment.
  • Determines which repair jobs may be performed by electricians, custodians, and maintenance workers on the staff and which must be performed by outside contracts and advises the Director of Property Services accordingly.
  • Supervises all electrical repair work performed by District personnel.
  • Supervises and executes preventative maintenance work orders on electrical equipment.
  • Instructs custodians and maintenance workers on the correct procedures in handling electrical equipment, and in the safe use of tools in electrical repair work.
  • Works with the Director of Property Services in estimating cost of electrical repair projects in terms of labor and materials.
  • Also sketches out and does material takeoffs on small electrical remodeling projects.
  • Supervises the installation and operation of all lighting and electrical sound equipment in auditorium and gymnasium for all special theatrical, athletic, and other performance events.
  • Recommends supplies and equipment for purchase and maintains the inventory of District-owned electrical equipment, tools, and supplies.
  • Works with the fire alarm systems contractor in the inspection and repair of District fire detection and alarm systems on an as-needed basis.
  • Submits preventative maintenance recommendations for electrical equipment in the District.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the Director of Property Services.

LENGTH OF POSITION: 7.5 hours per day, 261 days per year

SALARY: Range 23 Step 1, $42.61 per hour or DOE

EVALUATION: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board Policy.
